261 sickened by suspected norovirus outbreak at school in Toyama Prefecture

Health officials in Toyama Prefecture said Tuesday that 261 pupils and teachers at Isui Daimon Public Elementary School in Isui, Toyama Prefecture, were sickened due to a suspected outbreak of food poisoning caused by the norovirus.

Between Jan 31 and Feb 3, 245 pupils and 16 teachers reported vomiting and diarrhea, according to TV Asahi. Local government health officials said the norovirus was detected in two of the teachers.

Officials ordered all rooms at the school to be sterilized for four days from Feb 3-7; however, the school will not be closed.

The cause of the outbreak is believed to be school lunches prepared at the school.

So, insist that everyone bring in their own lunches for the remainder of winter. Problem solved. It's clearly lack of hygiene at the supply centre which is causing the problem
