The non-military Chinese invasion. It will only get worse and worse.

This is a true face of Chinese leadership. They offered "to improve relations with Tokyo" and shortly after that sent vessels into Senkaku region.

Someone please comment on why the Chinese didn't nationalize these islands well over 100 years ago if they say they belong to them. It doesn't make any sense.

why would you need to if you owned it?
like how often do you claim your sofa...which you feel you have inherent rights to...

What a laughable excuse. China decided that it was "theirs since ancient times" around 1970 or so. Plenty of evidence in the form of Chinese documentation from the 1950s/60s to show that China did not consider these islands to be theirs. China lies before the entire world without batting an eyelash.

The Tokyo court itself declared these islands were not Japanese territory, but then the US gave them to them, which was not their right. Yet the Japanese declare the islands a 'non-issue' for many of the reasons they dispute other island issues; South Korea owns and maintains Dokdo, but Japan says it means nothing. Russia owns and maintains the Kuriles, while Japan maintains it means nothing. Japan has a few boats patrolling around the disputed isles and suddenly that means everything. The hypocrisy is astounding.

“The ship responded in Chinese by saying in essence that Diaoyu and related islands are an inherent part of Chinese territory,” a Japanese coast guard spokesman told AFP."
Give them an inch and they will take everything.
The more the PRC pushes the faster Article 9 is finally removed from the Constitution!
I for one can not wait to see it go bye bye!

The Chinese government is acting like a small school of piranha. History tells us that they will take little bites and then run back to safety when pursued. They will repeat this maneuver over and over again until the school of piranha (decommissioned military vessels) grows too large to repel. Before you know it, they will be entrenched in your backyard and there will be nothing you can do about it. I don't like it but that seems to be where this is heading.

It's no longer news to me.

Shrug. The history of the islands is not important. Nor is the moral implication of these claims. That's just western thought, based only on "ethics" and not material gain.
Geopolitical means to gain more land, no matter how insignificant, is the real game. And China intends to win this game.
