Three women were found dead in a Tokyo hotel room on Friday afternoon in what police said was an apparent group suicide.

According to police, the bodies of the three were found in the bathroom of a room on the 14th floor of The Prince Park Tower Tokyo hotel in Minato Ward at about 1:30 p.m., TBS reported. The door was locked and the three were already dead when they were found by a hotel cleaning woman.

Police said that they found charcoal briquettes and a portable stove in the bathroom.

One of the women was in her 90s and the other two were in their 60s, police said, adding they were a mother and her two daughters. They checked in on Wednesday and were scheduled to check out on Friday morning.

My comment is 4 years later, but i stumbled upon these comments with a curiousity with this method. You cannot judge those that do suicide. I believe that they are in immense pain, that any happiness in the world is not even worth living for. We say "leave behind" that they go first. So that to me describes that we are all going to end up in the same destination anyways . I have come to believe at ttimes when i do see the future bleak , that maybe this reality is hell adn that when people "die" they live again. That is why they never come back. Its so much better on the other side, and so much more infitinite, it just makes more sense and is more fun to be there.

On earth, we are the cruelest beings. We kill and hate eachother, we know how to love but we know how to ahte as well. I am not justifying what is right or wrong, if i started to do that, it would be endless. Instead of judging what is right for a stranger rto do and what is wrong for a stranger to do, I believe we should all look into our own lives. Have you made people you care about happier today? have you been a friend to those in need? Are you all that you can be and did all you can do to be a bertter person from the minute you wake till you fall asleep.

Those left behind , they would be hurt and shocked, but i am sure its not that much of a shock. They saw signs , and ignored them or didnt pay enough attention to them actually screaming for help. We are all to selfih and like to point at others. We are all diffferent , our skills our temperment , our tolerance all vary. we are human and nao twp are the same. I think it is selfish to point and say its selfish , they dont have enough of whatever trait . and that is why they did something You dont know what they have been trhough. MAybe they feel more than you, taste more than you. Who knows. The point is , it is not a selfish act, why is it selfish? that they went first? because they hurt others? then what is the difference of a husband that cheats and hurts his children and wife.. wjy dont we put them on the headlines of the news as well ?

Change begins within yourself, and should spread . and for JApan its sooo deep rooted into history . Suicide used to be glorified, now not so but it is still ahuge problem

I can go on and on about this so i will stop tthis is my opinion on this matter

The suicide is the only case where a murder is punished right after having committed his act.

Why someone committing suicide should be considered as selfish?

I have read that many times and still I do not understand. Everyone has his own life and can do whatever he wants with it IMHO.

I know that any fully rational person who contemplates suicide must realize what a terribly selfish act this is but labeling someone stupid is inappropriate. We don't know the intent of the hearts of these people and the full circumstances surrounding their suicide. I think the maker is the only one that could administer a fair judgement and knows the intents, and abilities of men and in his infinite wisdom will make all things right in due course. It is so sad when people feel that their earthly life no longer has value. The act of taking one's life is truly a tragedy and leaves so many victims beside the one who dies then the dozens of others - family and friends who are left behind, some to face years of deep pain, confusion and difficult emotions including feelings of grief, anger, guilt, rejection which the victim of such family feel.

Suicide is a selfish act in all cases, triggered by events that people are unable to cope with. Sorry, but true.

You have no idea. Adding the qualifier about coping does not entitle one to call his unthoughtful opinion the truth. Committing an act of selfishness requires a mental and emotional capacity that people who commit suicide do not possess.

scheduled to check out on Friday morning

Looks like they "checked out" a little early.

Of course is a dramatic fact. My question is why we thing so many thins around the suicide and nothing else about the external causes of suicide. The sadness, isolation, etc.,¿does not needs to rethink our society?

Love when JT changes the story... So mom and two daughters?

Great to see how a lot of posters here assume that when people commit suicide they are completely sane and as such take time to take every little detail into consideration before killing themselves. I mean they want to DIE, but of course it is only normal to make sure you don't inconvenience anyone whilst killing yourself.

Call them selfish and stupid and unworthy of the title human all you like, good to know that you will act rational and sane in every possible situation. If calling them cowards makes you feel strong knock yourself out, but you're being a jerk in my opinion. Everyone deserves respect in dead, especially those who were so completely lost in life that they ended it earlier.

Really, instead of accusing people, I think it more important to find out why.

Being the "survivor" of the suicide of my loved one, some of the remarks made here are not merely ugly.

Try changing your attitude before you are suddenly facing the final test at the pearly gates, "where you loving to your fellow humans, or not?" Answer one way, go downstairs, over and out. Answer another way, show you are deserving, and upwards you go. A quaint notion that I subscribe to.

just another 3 to add to the 30,000+ suicides for this year, 450,000+ for the last 15 years. Japanese will find it more shocking that 25,000 people died from a tsunami or 5000 died in the Hanshin earthquake. damn suicides in Japan surpass even the deaths from the bombings of Hiroshima Nagasaki. makes question the mentality of people sometimes... sigh

Try to imagine the depths of desperation and abject sadness that would cause a person to reject the human instinct to live, an instinct that has led people to choose slavery and abuse over death. If you cannot imagine how that feels, you have no right to judge the actions of suicide victims.

Suicide is not a problem, it is a symptom of the bigger problem. Instead of condemning these women, turn you limited brainpower to solving the problem that leads to actions like this.

Good. Three less weak minder individuals walking the earth. Tired of people taking their lives. If they were terminally ill, I can understand but if not, see ya!

People in the next room, or if anyone was outside the door might (small chance I must admit) might have had their life placed in jeopardy,

They weren't sniffing paint thinners or using cyanide here. They used burning coals, which are a massive fire risk, which could have killed many including the firefighters trying to save the three they didn't know were already dead. That is simply unacceptable.

-7 ( +1 / -8 )

I am quite certain the cleaning lady was in shock finding three corpses in the room. Most people who don't have experience with corpses who find one during a busy week cannot sleep for a while due to the shock. Its quite a sight when you find one, well when you find three, THAT'S spooky stuff. Especially this month, close to Halloween and the fact that this month is all about spirits and goblins. Wow, this would make a good bar-counter story over some beers. BTW, this morning I read, a man and two women were found dead in an attempted suicide but now its been revised to three women and all related, wow...that is creepy. Rest in peace...but wait a minute, aren't they in purgatory? That must be a scary place if there is such a place, I don't know I am not catholic. But if there was a place it would be a place of purification through fire.

No smoke detectors in a locked bathroom. No worries about it going off,

This again!? I hate it when suicides are called 'selfish'! Those three were human beings, damn it!

You`re entirely right Michael. Under most circumstances most people would agree with you. But in this case you have to remember that they took a poisonous substance into a hotel where other people are bound to be. People in the next room, or if anyone was outside the door might (small chance I must admit) might have had their life placed in jeopardy, so I can easily understand some people getting upset by this.

Once again, you`re entirely right. However if people wish to commit suicide they should at least show some compassion towards others and not possibly endanger them.

A mother (90's) with her two daughters (60's) commit group suicide in a hotel!!!!!

Except if there is a kind of sectorial religious cr%%p behind that I cannot believe it. I just cannot.

Or there is a mega issue behind that (like sexual abuse for years from a relative) and they did not want the family to be dishonored, which is even worse than the cr&$#P sect.

Bests to their - real - love ones!

(Basroil: if BBQ emits 5000ppm CO2, how much emit a cigarette? At least, the detectors in my house make easily the difference)

Yes, you're right. They were human beings. Cowardly, selfish and dishonourable human beings....

It's a terrible thing, when the fear and sadness you feel when considering your future, is so much greater than the fear and sadness you feel when thinking about death.

Death was the best option for them, they thought - and who are we to say they were wrong, if they were facing the inevitable callousness of old age, sickness, hospital costs, lack of care, isolation, loneliness, hunger, and homelessness?

The poor women chose the neatest way of death they could think of. Not in their home, for that would lower its sale price. Poor, sad women.

3 ( +4 / -1 )

Elderly women? Last time I read it I'm sure it said a man and 2 women?

-1 ( +0 / -1 )

scary

Poor maid that found them. Poor family members who will have to pick up the pieces to all of this. Selfish folks who killed themselves. At least they didn't jump in front of a train.

,only messes up Gods schedule. How inconsiderate of them, no thought for God or others.

Yeah, forget about these 3 chumps....poor god, he must be taking really hard that these people had the audacity to mess up his "schedule". .............obscurity!

7 ( +8 / -1 )

From when you are born you are on borrowed time. But to take your own life before your time ,only messes up Gods schedule. How inconsiderate of them, no thought for God or others. Still, the question has to be asked what made then even consider taking there own lives, that is the sad part.

Why bring god into this at all?

9 ( +11 / -1 )

man, i hope that guy got a happy ending before he died.

It should have raised a red flag for the hotel when, upon asking the group if they wanted room service that evening, the group responded, "No thanks, we brought our own grill."

-2 ( +5 / -7 )

That is an unlucky hotel. Nearly always empty and the staff go around at night turning on room lights so it appears busy. Now this??

1 ( +1 / -0 )

Too sad.

2 ( +4 / -2 )

So not only were they stupid enough to commit suicide, but they also went as far as to endanger the lives of several hundred staff and customers.

That hotel isn't a cheap one, so I wonder why the fire alarms didn't go off sooner. Charcoal usually releases about 5000ppm of CO (compared to other gasses), while the survivability at that level is about 30min. So what the hell was done between a minute after the coal started (when smoke detectors can measure elevated CO/CO2) and the time they were found dead? What if someone had knocked over the burning charcoal and the room (and whole hotel) went up in flames?

Many unanswered questions here.

Very likely though, they rented a "smoking" room which has the alarms disabled. If that's true, I hope Japan pushes to ban smoking in hotels like the US already has in most states, because it's an accident (or in this suicide attempt, arson) waiting to happen (and claim millions in damages and perhaps casualties)
