A snowmobile that three people, including two elementary school students, were riding, crashed into a tree, seriously injuring the two boys, in Sapporo, Hokkaido, on Sunday.

At around 3:30 p.m. on Sunday, a passerby called 119 reporting that there had been an accident involving a snowmobile at Pekeretto Lake Park, Fuji TV reported.

According to police, a 45-year-old man and two boys, aged 11 and 12, were riding the snowmobile when it crashed into the tree. The boys hit their heads and the man, who is a friend of the boys' father, suffered injuries to his face and shoulder. All three were taken to hospital.

The boys remained in a coma on Monday. Police believe that one of the boys might have been driving the snowmobile.

We've got snowmobiling cops keeping things real in my part of the world. Beware speeding...

Sweden and Norway have a similar policy where you have to be a certain age BEFORE you can get on one with an adult!, I hope they have a speedy recovery.

I'm from Minnesota and these types of accidents are quite common. Here you have to have a valid drivers license, wear a helmet and successfully complete a SNOWMOBILE SAFETY training seminar. Also a lot of these accidents are a result of too much speed and use of alcohol. I hope these folks have a speedy recovery!
