3 men, 1 woman found dead in minivan in apparent suicide

24 Comments

The bodies of three men and one woman have been found in a minivan in the parking lot of a campsite in Ishioka, Ibaraki Prefecture, police said Sunday.

According to the police, the four died in an apparent suicide as the vehicle's doors were locked, its windows were taped shut and there was a portable stove and remains of charcoal briquettes in the van, Fuji TV reported.

Police said they received a call from the Obata campsite administration office at around 11 a.m. Saturday, reporting that four people were inside a minivan and that they were not moving.

Campsite authorities said the minivan, which was rented, arrived in the parking lot at around 4 p.m., and the four checked in to a small cottage. When campsite employees were unable to contact them on Saturday morning, one of the workers went to the parking lot where he found them in the van.

Police said the three men were aged 41, 37, and 34, while the woman was aged 43. They were not related and were from Tokyo, Chiba and Kanagawa prefectures, police said.

MsDeliciousAPR. 02, 2017 - 05:20PM JST Sounds like cult stuff. Dangerous religious beliefs. I wonder if they found what they were looking for.

No, Educator60 is very likely right. While not necessarily a common phenomenon in Japan, sadly stories of this sort of thing happening have been coming out of Japan for decades.

@sandiegoluv Many people , who commit suicide , don't do it for the reasons , which you've mentioned , but because they just yearn for the sweet embrace of death and the relief after it. Some people just don't have the will to live , even iff they don't have any paticular problems. I think that life really isn't meant for everyone. When you are born no one asks if you wanted to be or not. That's why at least you should be free to choose wethere to die or not. Suicide isn't everytime about running away or hurting someone by killing yourself, it's just about freeing your soul.But let's not forget that such massive suicide , could really be caused by some suspicious brainwashing website. And inducing someone to commit a suicide by manipulating them equals murder.

It's really easy to spot people willing to suicide online. The internet brought people really close together, no matter if you are living in Shizuoka, Kyoto, Yokohama or Neverland. Be it on social-medias, forums, communities or even arbitrary chat, things are really easier nowadays.

Pick a place, go together and die. Dying is so much easier than living, especially when you are feeling recluse from this Perfect-ish society and suddenly you find some people who are going through the same problems that you are... And they are willing to do something really extreme to make it stop.

And nowadays living is not really so charming, right? I mean, working 12-18 hours a day every day on the week to receive a mediocre paycheck to live a life-- that you wont live at all (you are working 12-18 hours everyday right?).

One way or another you aren't going to live. The difference is basically the time you'll spend suffering.

Pessimistic as it may be. It's the reality of a big share of people around Japan.

Be it...

Japanese with their responsibilities towards society;

Foreigners with their lame jobs and salaries;

Young people are seen as useless and lazy;

Middle-aged people are seen as losers with a bad job (and if they do quit, their bosses are really straight forward telling that they won't find any other job at their age);

Old people with their loneliness and emotional emptiness.

Probably got connected on social media through one of those weird websites.

People, people. It really is not worth all that. You can not fight your battles when you are dead. You aren't paying anyone back when you do that. People will mourn you for a short time and then your memory in those who did love you will fade and fade until you are hardly thought of at all, and if you are, it will painful for the ones you loved. I am sure that is not what you want.

And you will not be teaching anyone who hurt you a lesson. If they thought you were a loser before, they will they of you that way even more. You can not make them change their minds if you are not in the grave, because there aren't any more possibilities for you to do so. End of story.

Maybe some might change their ways of dealing with others, but it will be short-lived. The only person who really loses is you. Please get some help if you feel this way. Somewhere out there, somebody truly does care about you. I know I sure would care about you. And I am sure there are many more that do as well.

Get help if you are even thinking about this.

RIP to you four poor hopeless souls. I wish the world would have been kinder to you all. So sad to see things like this.

This is a Case of murder set to look like suicide Prove me wrong no notes and how were the doors sealed /windows taped up what about the air vents were they also blocked did they fingerprint the doors etc

Actually the burden of proof, beyond your suppositions, is upon you, not the other way around. There have been numerous cases of suicide by carbon monoxide poisoning, the stove with remaining charcoal, sadly it's not a "new" thing here.

The vents and windows being sealed just means they were serious about committing suicide and left nothing to doubt.

Sad story, Rip, but better this way and not disturbing people around you then jumping in front of a train and many people have to suffer

Internet suicide, really sad to read these

4 people all unrelated, 3 guys, one woman.......I don't get it. Gotta be connected somehow.

Very sad and tragic. What could be so bad that it would cause you to take your own life. Everyone should understand that life is not easy. You must be strict with yourself and only then does life get easier.

Life is about struggles and overcoming them to be a stronger individual.

@Educator - Whoops. Yes, that is what I meant. Thanks for pointing that out.

You can not make them change their minds if you are in the grave, because there aren't any more possibilities for you to do so. End of story.

Happens all the time. They meet on the net in a secret group because they are feeling down and don't have the courage to finish the job alone so they look for the same people wanting to end it and to support them in case they get cold feet. Same textbook way, carbon monoxide by the BBQ kits sets for camping. No crime, no religion, no connection to each other, just they same sad goal for depression and wanting a way out. People here say Japan hasn't got the worlds highest suicide rate but how many countries have strangers meet and go out this same way so easy and so often? This carbon monoxide method is the nations No.1 method, jumping from a building is a close second. Jumping in front of a train is the selfish way as the deceased's family must pay close to $1M for disrupting the train lines schedule. Please feel free to look this up or ask your Japanese friends.

Just out of interest, is this method pain free... like going to sleep?

Yes, it is.

@Tsenka - My apologies but I have worked for years and years with people with serious mental issues, including suicidal ones, so let me inform you of what I know. You are partly right and wrong. The reasons that they commit suicide are for the reasons that you and I have both stated. What I was referring to is people who commit suicide because of bullying and being outcasts of society. These people can be helped if their families, educators and society as a whole plays more or a positive role in their lives.

Wether life is meant for everyone or not is neither here nor there, it just means that we have to make more of an effort to influence the person's thought process to enjoy their lives while here.

While life may not be for everyone, that is hardly the point. You are born. Now, more efforts need to be made to improve that quality of life through counseling and a better understanding of the individual by family, friends and peers.

That's why at least you should be free to choose wethere to die or not.

You are free to choose wether to die or not. However, if that were true, who needs counseling? Why even bother? If that is the we should do things, then why even try to work out mental issues? Just let them run rampant until they meet their desired result. Hardly the answer unless the person is in severe pain due to illness.

There is a website for suicidal ratbags to meet and plan their demise. No doubt these four met on it.

Moderator: Please repost without the word "ratbags," which reflects badly on yourself.

... If the government was not comprised of a bunch of incompetent militarists this crap would have already been MONITORED throughout the nation and the victim-culprits would have been helped IN TIME.

Nice post. If we think about these things too much, who knows what we might do. It made me remember that song from M.A.S.H. (Apparently lyrics written by a 14-year old in 5 minutes, and he was requested to make the stupidest song ever written. And yet ....)
