The bodies of three people were found in a car parked along a forest road in Sagamihara, Kanagawa Prefecture, on Tuesday, in what police believe was a joint suicide.
According to police, a passerby placed an emergency call just past 8 a.m. and said a “suspicious vehicle” was parked on the road in Midori Ward, Kyodo News reported. Police said the car's interior was not visible from the outside and the doors were locked.
After opening the car, police found the bodies of one man and two women, all believed to be in their 20s or early 30s. There were no visible signs of injury on the bodies. Remnants of charcoal briquettes were found inside.
Police said the car had been parked at its current location since around noon on January 9.

It's not. The oxygen gets displaced by CO2. You can still breathe, it just doesn't bring you oxygen, and eventually you fall asleep and pass out.

So sad.
In their 20s and 30s.
Man,a tragedy.

charcoal briquettes burned in a sealed car seems to be a very common means of suicide..... seems a very nasty way to go, and I can only imagine the people who do this must be in a damned desperate state not to rip the doors open and suck air..... awful awful situation.

Apparently not, it is reasonably painless from what I understand apparently in 2015 a group died accidentally from Carbon monoxide poisoning (apparently non of them even realized it was happening or if they did they were already to far gone to react) carbon monoxide doesn't smell doesn't taste and isn't irritating. take some sleeping pills and you will never even notice it.
Oh wait i see whats going on oops yea sure ghastly way to die don't try it anybody if you are feeling suicidal go here first https://telljp.com/lifeline/

Carbon monoxide poisoning occurs when carbon monoxide builds up in your bloodstream. When too much carbon monoxide is in the air, your body replaces the oxygen in your red blood cells with carbon monoxide. This can lead to serious tissue damage, or even death.
Carbon monoxide is a colorless, odorless, tasteless gas produced by burning gasoline, wood, propane, charcoal or other fuel. Improperly ventilated appliances and engines, particularly in a tightly sealed or enclosed space like the inside of a car, may allow carbon monoxide to accumulate to dangerous levels.
Carbon monoxide poisoning can be particularly dangerous for people who are sleeping or intoxicated. People may have irreversible brain damage or even die before anyone realizes there's a problem.

Wow! I can't even get 2 people to go with me to watch a movie or camping or something super fun and lively, but this guy can get 2 women to commit suicide? While a sad loss, it says a lot about Japanese social society.

I agree with fellow commenters it is a most awful, ghastly, nasty and horrible way to go. But, they must have taken sleeping tablets before locking the car doors. Here in Montreal a city in eastern Canada, there
are prominent notices on the walls of all metro stations with a phone number for could-be suiciders to call for help 365 days.

Plain terrible.

How easy or, how moderately difficult or, how messy it would be to go this way is all conjecture because, not one commenter has tried it and, because if he or she had tried it, he or she would not be here today commenting in the pages of Japan Today. N'est pas?
