Sounds like a dead-angle accident. Hope the children will be alright though.

People should never have to compete with cars for real estate, where traffic lights are simultaneously green for cars and pedestrians at the same time.

Just today I was walking to the park with my students and 2 other teachers. We started crossing a zebra crossing after checking if there was no cars coming, with hands raised. We were in the middle of the crossing and the everyday salary man type car came speeding up the road. I raised my hand to symbolize please wait while we cross.
The car stopped 10cm from the teacher standing on the crossing. Then speed off around the last few kids.
Some people in this country need to slow the hell down. For hitting people, if the person is speeding. Jail for at least 10 years.

@SenseNotSoCommon I have often said that the pedestrian light should turn green a few seconds before the main light, and thus get pedestrians in motion so that drivers about to turn will see them before moving pedestrians are hidden by their own moving blind spot; the column between the windshield and the side window.
@Cortes ElijahTrue. I hope that next time you get a license number and report such SOBs.

This country would make a fortune putting cameras on traffic lights. Let me guess...they were on a crossing when they were hit? drivers here are sooooooo impatient. I have no idea why because generally Japanese folk are quite willing to queue for everything else. Put one in a car and.....we get this!

Japan has to be the safest country to live in and I am sure glad I'm a resident. If news about 3 boys being hit by a car but not killed, not a hit and run, the driver wasn't a gaijin and it gets national coverage, then we ain't doing all that bad.
Still, I'm sympathetic for the boys and wish them a speedy recovery! Hope the driver wasn't using is smartphone at the time!
