3-year-old boy falls to his death from 6th floor of condo

I think Japan create a national law prohibiting owners to lease units higher than secooood stories to. People with children.

I have actually read some comments that for "some" people it's a norms to leave your kids alone for few minutes or hours but for majority I think this is a BIG "no, no" what could possibly be a reason for not taking your child with you?

syzyguy: Maybe in this case, but that wouldn't stop it from happening all the time in Japan.

It is tragic that the child died, but it is irresponsible to leave a three-year-old alone at home. This should not be an acceptable form of parenting in Japan.

And yet again, convenience trumps safety, and people die as a result, with the mother probably wondering "Why?" when she knows full well it is her own fault. She should be charged with negligence resulting in death, I don't care how much she is already suffering. Condo's and apartment buildings also need to start putting up nets, and parents need to learn in general about "child-proofing".

Can't she have locked the balcony entrance before leaving the toddler alone to deal himself.?

A three year old can open locks! However, that is not the point. The point is, yet another toddler has met with their death while being left at home alone by an irresponsible twit of a parent! When will parents in Japan realise it is not ok to leave your young kids at home alone or locked in a car? This is a very serious offense where I come from that can result in the children being removed from an unsafe environment and the parent/s being charge with neglect. I have no doubt this was not the first time she has left the kid alone either. I also bet there was a chair or some other structure on the balcony for him to climb over.

So sad, never ever leave your kids alone.

I would be interested to see comparable stats from other G7 nations, because this seems to happen a lot in Japan. I can’t find any stats though, why don’t other parents learn that this happens and so, well can happen.

Is it a case of, ‘It won’t happen to me?’ (Not a good way to live life IMO)

I feel sad at the loss of a precious, young Japanese life. Can't she have locked the balcony entrance before leaving the toddler alone to deal himself.? Can't imagine such carelessness.
