30 people left facing ground as USJ roller coaster stops for emergency reason

Thirty passengers on a roller coaster at Osaka’s Universal Studios Japan theme park were left temporarily stuck face down after their ride was interrupted for an emergency reason.

The incident took place shortly after 4 p.m. on Sunday. According to park officials, an employee applied the emergency stop system on the The Flying Dinosaur attraction after he saw a child entering the attraction’s off-limits area immediately after getting off the roller coaster. The passengers boarding the next ride were already on the roller coaster, and the emergency left them temporarily stuck in a face-down position, Fuji TV reported.

The passengers were rescued one by one by the park crew. No one was injured in the incident, USJ representatives said.

A witness said that people “looked scared,” but they all got off the roller coaster “without panicking and in an orderly manner.”

The Flying Dinosaur was restarted immediately after the incident, Fuji TV said.

"Get off the flying dinosaur" should become an expression !

How long were they left dangling upside down like that?

So, what was the emergency that they had to rescue the people hanging there one by one and then could start the ride again immediately after? Hope those people got a refund or at least some express passes or something.

They sure got more of a thrill than they bargained for.

Then they got on the next ride after getting a free bottle of green tea. :)

Glad someone was watching and stopped the ride.

The passengers boarding the next ride were already on the roller coaster.

Huh? Maybe it was meant that other passengers had boarded and their car was already on the tracks, so they were the ones who were upside down?

Quick thinking by the operator.

A foreign child had gone into an area that needed them to stop the ride.

Thank you cracaphat for the vital information that the child was "foreign". Kids will be kids.

I worked at an amusement park in my high school days. I worked at a restaurant overlooking one of the roller coasters known for its loops. It stopped several times upside but never made the news.

Disneyland in Anaheim often has kids jumping off rides like Haunted Mansion or Pirates of the Caribbean so endless ride stoppages.

Amusement parks kind of freak me out these days. Yet when I was a wee one; I had no such qualms. AstroWorld in Houston still is fresh in my memory even after this lengthy passage of time.

Thankfully nobody was injured in this incident.

Our last ride on the Disney World Epcot giant golf ball, I mean "Spaceship Earth," the dark ride was stopped while we were at the top almost on our backs horizontally - apparently a kid got scared and tried to get off. They turned on the lights (we could actually see how the ride looks un-dark) and told us to jump off to the nearest platform and walk down the steep series of stairs to get outside the golf ball, lol
