How often does this have to happen til It's not news anymore? This is the new norm guys.

4 ( +5 / -1 )

How's that new massive ship working out? Still accomplishing nothing to prevent the incursions?

These actions achieve nothing and prove nothing, apart from remind us what a bunch of childish plonkers the CCP are.

According to a Hong Kong magazine YAZHOU ZHOUKAN, the possibility that the Chinese People's Liberation Army can beat Japan's "Navy" is unlikely and should avoid direct confrontation.

So, if Japan changes the constitution do you think they will sink these boats? I think it is the only reason they want to change the constitution.

Disillusioned: "So, if Japan changes the constitution do you think they will sink these boats? I think it is the only reason they want to change the constitution."

I think they want to change the constitution so that they can start building up to TRY and sink the boats, but by then will be sunk. I mean, look... they JUST set off to see the biggest ship built since the Yamato (which was sunk very quickly) for this express purpose and they can't keep these ships or even sailboats out.

And the PRC invasions continue...... Well, they will continue until Article 9 is no more......

@ JoeBigs

This will not stop until these area is no longer disputes. China gov't is likely to see Japan Article 9 is approved actually. Think hard, you will understand. I am sure the chief leaders of China will lol if Article 9 is approved. But of course they wont say this in public.

'Invasions', eh? If they were truly invasions, surely the SDF could stop them, no? If you mean simply 'incursions' removing article nine, or even revising it, will only guarantee more, and might even bring about the invasions you were talking about.

@smithinjapan

You do realize that the JDS Izumo was only launched on August 6 and that commissioning is expected to be in 2015. Commissioning means to place the ship in active service.

Everyone should also remember that the current issue is being handled by the constabulary and NOT the military on both sides. The Coast Guard is not the JMDFS.

China will reap what they sow.

Onsen: "You do realize that the JDS Izumo was only launched on August 6 and that commissioning is expected to be in 2015. Commissioning means to place the ship in active service."

And what will the Izumo do when actually commissioned? It won't, and can't, stop them. It might have better loudspeakers for pleading, though.

@smithinjapan

So you thought that Japan with the inaugurate launch of the yet uncommisioned helicopter carrier expected to be instrumental in the prevention of incursions of Chinese vessels into Japan's territorial waters?

The Izumo is designed to carry anti-submarine helicopters as well as search and rescue helicopters.

Big ship, scary aren't we! is not the raison d'etre for the Izumo and never was. You do know that there are 2 Hyuga-class helicopter carriers already in service?

It is the Japanese Coast Guard who patrols the area. The Hateruma-class patrol ships are 1000t class and carry 30mm autocannons with laser-optical fire control systems. And these have helicopter decks too.

If the Chinese wish to take these on, they would have to be pretty bold. And stupid.

As long as no-one shoots (or lock FC radar!) it's all cat and mouse chasing. Let's hope nothing escalates from this situation.

@smithinjapan

You're missing the point, the Japanese armed forces aren't the ones patrolling the waters, it's the coast guard, so the Izumi is irrelevant here.

smithinjapanAug. 17, 2013 - 09:19PM JST 'Invasions', eh?

Invasion is the correct term used when one nation sends forces into another nation, you know like the PRC did in Tibet.
