Time to release the footage and data. Make them accountable, watch them lie.

Sooner or later China will need to be contained.

tkoind2, the containment process has already began. Some US troops have been shifted to the Northern Australia.

Chinese military muscle are showing strength but when American aircraft carrier is near by then they getting much softer.

Senkaku.....

Thanks, Yubaru. I should have correctly added Senkakus to the headline.

Apparently China did not heed USA warning in canceling out provocative acts towards China. Deception is their ploy now. 4 ships this time , how many next ? They'll figure out Japan's response time to everything and then park a few thousand people on those islands and say what are you going to do ?? Nothing !! Whine whine whine !

I am afraid China will continue these harrasements until Japan makes strategic mistakes.

China is now testing both Japan and USA. Something has to happen.

3 ( +4 / -1 )

Release first, then talk.

3 ( +5 / -2 )

Zichi: I agree these rocks may have some strategic interests. However IMHO the big part of this tension is 90% triggered by internal politic in both countries to create diversion vs. addressing real domestic problems.

Defense Minister Itsunori Onodera said on Fuji TV on Sunday that Tokyo was carefully studying whether or how to disclose military data as evidence.

Why? Just do it while our popcorn is still warm.

25psot: "Chinese military muscle are showing strength but when American aircraft carrier is near by then they getting much softer."

No they won't, because IF an American carrier goes near the disputed waters, which I doubt it will because China will call it an act of war and tensions will mount even further over the rocks, the US will do nothing. All it will accomplish is that they will get a better view of the Chinese boats. If China calls that bluff, Japan has nowhere to go. It would also show they are weak and cannot possibly handle China on their own.

China needs to knock this nonsense off before a real war happens by accident. All it takes is one fool to push things one step too far.

The legal disposition of the islands is clear. China cannot bully their way past this. Now while I also blame Ishihara and Noda for making this matter much worst, and Abe for pouring more fuel on the fire, China is the real problem here. And the real risk taker towards creating a conflict where people get killed.

China needs to stop bullying Japan, the Philippines, Vietnam and other states over her territorial claims. Most of which have no grounding in anything other than Chinese imaginations.

China is just proving day in and day out that it is a threat to Asia, not a leader or friend for Asia. Sooner or later China will need to be contained.

control over the passage to open waters.

US Navy successfully stopped N.Korean ship carrying important nuke parts to Iran at Myanmar.

This game of cat and mouse will continue for the foreseeable future. Japan, just has to play it smart, and PLAY THE GAME being careful not to make any wrong moves.

YES it is partly about fishing rights and POSSIBLE undersea gas field (as yet unproven) but more importantly it is about having direct open water access straight out to the pacific ocean.

At the moment all Chinese vessels must depart from from the mainland or from within the regions of the China sea, having these islands (along with other islands it is claiming to the south) give it a free run and a good number of days free sailing.

This is why the USA will back Japan all the way, the last thing the USA wants, is China having ships moored or based directly in the Pacific Ocean. i.e.: Direct Line of site to Guam, Hawaii and the US mainland.

china is digging his own grave and the communist authorities of china must be desperate. Bullying is all that's left to do.

Cannot afford to give up too much technical secrets away to China.

I'd hardly call these "islands". Not even habitable. "Outcroppings" really describes them much better. Take a look: http://search.yahoo.com/search?fr=mcafee&p=Senkaku+%2B+pictures

Hey Japan: China renamed some fireworks--it's all good.

1 ( +2 / -1 )

Again, Chinese intrusion into another countries' waters...

1 ( +4 / -3 )

IRobin. Assuring profits in the world, as you say the US only cares about, means controlling China. So you can absolutely bet on US support to contain China. Americans see China as a threat as much as Asian states.

But they also want to exploit China's resources and labor. So they will pay both sides until they cannot. Then they will come down on the side of Japan and other Asian states.

Second, I am sure the US also knows that China is in a bubble, has a disgruntled working population and domestic issues that will potentially tear it apart one day. So they will play for time. Why work too hard to contain a state, when you can watch it fall apart on its own?

China is a time bomb on so many levels. It may ignite a regional war. It may self destruct and create a global economic crisis. Or it may work things out for the better. Time will tell, but one thing that is absolutely for sure, is that the US will help contain China's power. 100% certain.

SmithInJapan, thx, can't say it better:

"Anyway, once Japan stops white-washing the history books, rescinding apologies, denying atrocities, suggesting they are the victims of their own aggression, claiming there is no island dispute while saying other nations claiming the same thing are wrong, and trying to 'surround' China, stop visiting right-wing shrines and shrines that contain the remains of class-A war criminals (and Tokyo denies they were criminals!) to appeal to right-wing voters, etc., the ships will stop entering the disputed waters. So, in other words, they will not stop so long as both parties are unwilling to be serious and address history and stop provoking each other."

Smith

Utter nonsense. What are those issues have to do with China threatening Japan? It simply amazes me that the lengths some people go through to justify China's recent threats to Japan. It's the same mentality that the mobs used to destroy Japanese businesses and people in China last year.

0 ( +2 / -2 )

What a better way to keep the one regime party in power, just start a war so the focus won't be on the corrupt government but on much hated scape goat," Japan." It's high time the Chinese people wake up to the fact that their government is not for the people but for themselves.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Is this really news worthy? China and Japan both claim the island. UN, USA and the rest of the world do not recognize japan or China's ownership of the island. Only US recognize Japan's Adminstration of the islands but not the ownership thus China, Taiwan and anyone else can freely come and go as they like. The islands don't belong to Japan so Japan should stop taking a hard position and negotiate with the Chinese. The Chinese already stated their willingness to compromise. It's is only the Japapense government who refuses to negotiate.

-1 ( +11 / -12 )

globalwatcher, USA will never has a war with China, it will just hinder the raise of China and mostly in a bluff way and the real steps are complished by the allies. No one can reckon on USA. The USA is too smart before the profits and interests. It will never follow the mistakes that maded by the UK in the WW1 and WW2. For the USA, the only thing she cares about is to make sure she is the greatest country.

-1 ( +2 / -3 )

--- There is an example of the Quemoy island of Taiwan in 1958, the USA just kept bluffing before the fight, then ran away the fight began.

-1 ( +2 / -3 )

---There disputes are just the bait that the USA putted down to make two nations to fight back to each other, by doing this the USA can has leverage to gain benefits from both sides as the ways it is be now. I think China know about this, so China will never be bluffed back.

-1 ( +2 / -3 )

@IRobin you seem to not understand that it's not only about the islands or the hypothetical natural resources in that area anymore. It's plain and simple a matter of principle. Giving in to China is like giving a spoiled, screaming child what it wants and if it doesn't get it it will just start screaming louder. It gets used to that it can get everything if it just screams loud and long enough. That's how China works.

-1 ( +3 / -4 )

@CGB Spender, I know about this, this is the reality, can we teach the USA what to do what not to do? They are big counties! besides the price is too big to worthy do it. Japan's economy is in struggling now, this maybe make it even worse, when a lot of counties' economy in Asia such S.Keara , India , it will be more worse for Japan at that time. I know it is a hard decision, but no pain no gain. Japan can benefit from China's economy, when Japan raise again, everything will be easy to handle. That is a wise choose. Besides, China and Japan are so close, it is not the destiny that the two counties fight for ever, and make other counties far away to benefit from. That is disaster and stupid.

-1 ( +2 / -3 )

Anyway, once Japan stops white-washing the history books, rescinding apologies, denying atrocities, suggesting they are the victims of their own aggression, claiming there is no island dispute while saying other nations claiming the same thing are wrong, and trying to 'surround' China, stop visiting right-wing shrines and shrines that contain the remains of class-A war criminals (and Tokyo denies they were criminals!) to appeal to right-wing voters, etc., the ships will stop entering the disputed waters. So, in other words, they will not stop so long as both parties are unwilling to be serious and address history and stop provoking each other.

Would you stop spouting nonsense? The Chinese did the same thing to history book, so does America, and your beloved SK.

-1 ( +1 / -2 )

IRobin, the Chinese that you are able to talk to are the class that is benefiting from the current system. Are you talking to the members of Chinese society who make up the legions of impoverished workers? The transient workers living 10 to a room? Or squatting in China's major cities just to send a tiny amount of money home?

Are you talking to the rural labor people who rise up frequently but garner no global attention? Or to the religions, ethnic and political minorities repressed in China?

The bottom line is that most people view China only through the eyes of the class that travel, live abroad or have access to mass media. They don't judge by the massive majority who are not benefiting and who are increasingly locked out of a polarized society between haves and have nots.

You need to spend a lot more time looking at the reality of China. There are dozens of academic works discussing these points out there. Put aside the corporate propaganda and see China for what it really is. A powder keg of discontentment and division.

Which is all a big part of why China is so eager to find a target for their domestic anger. For a government, it is much better to have your people angry at an "enemy" than thinking about their own leaders as the enemy. China is a master at this kind of public manipulation. Focus the anger of workers on someone outside. Someone easy like Japan. The alternative is that the same anger turns on the Chinese government and brings it down. Easy choice for the government for which is a better outcome. So war, could be their saving grace from the anger of their own people.

-1 ( +0 / -1 )

However, he also said he did not think China would “admit to it even if Japan discloses a variety of evidence, because it is trying to protect its national interest.”

All more reason to show the evidence to the rest of the world.

We're getting close. We have the Chinese daring more. Soon enough, we'll have sufficient provocation to dismantle the PRC into six independent countries, starting with a free Tibet, a totally autonomous Xinjiang, an Inner Mongolia capable of reuniting with Outer Mongolia and the Han Chinese divided within three independent countries based on the three principal rivers of current China.

Inner Mongolia is 79% Han. No reason to return it to outer Mongolia unless, you are telling me white people should return America to the natives and southern Vietnam should be return to Cambodia.

"For the first time after Tokyo made the allegation last week..."

Ah, but last week everyone was talking as if it were fact, but there has as of yet been zero proof, and the onus is on Japan to prove it given they accused China of doing it.

Tamarama: Agreed. If China indeed did it, Japan should prove it. Sure, China would lose face, but tough. As it is, anyone with a brain in their head would agree it's Japan that has lost face -- accusing China of this and that without a shred of evidence, especially after they could not confirm their claim Russia invaded Japanese air space a day or so before. When one party accuses everyone else of being a liar, it's quite clear who the liar is.

-2 ( +9 / -11 )

Maybe Japan should give up these islands, because they are too small to resident anybody, but thet maybe with a great price of Japanese future, because appearently China will never give up. Besides, Japan took these islands as a result of Sino-Japanese war , this claim is conflict to the northern four islands , that is also the result of the WW2.

-2 ( +4 / -6 )

tkoind2, Actually, I talked to many Chinese, the issue of the economic and domocracy are not that bad in China, it far differenct from the Irag, Libya etc, and the innovations carring now are giving them hope. There are too many pool people in the country-side, the economic are far from developed there, that means a great market in still growing, it will support the boosting for at least 20 years. There are too many people in China as we all know about, labor benefit will disapear in far future also that we can't count on recently. maybe China is a bubble but the domestic needs are not bubble, these also can sustain the economy. If China is a time bomb its explosion will break out after its GDP transcend the USA in 2020 as per the reports from standard bank. China is a big county with great population, this will the USA think a lot before take any actions. The USA is not the saver for the countries of Asia the only reason to intervene is "Where there is a confliction there is benefits"

-2 ( +2 / -4 )

Like Noda said 'Just Calm Down'! What is the big deal when the Chinese ships are not military in nature and just dancing at the 12 mile edge? Is Japan so afraid of China building her case for eventual ICJ ruling when China submit her case?

-2 ( +3 / -5 )

We're getting close. We have the Chinese daring more. Yeah, we have it settled as a small component of the future for Asia. Yeah, it's just a hangnail of a detail. But the Chinese need to know where they stand in the 21st century. Hang in there. You're still very minor in the overall equation of world economics or military standing. Buzz off.

Otherwise, the world simply flows in the same fashion we have always dictated. So say we all.

My wild imagination tells me the Chinese civilian ships patrolling the Senkaku/Diaoyu Islands does not become a China disintegration scenario. In fact it could become a Japan disintegration scenario first with Okinawans fearful bearing the brunt of any war with China, they will demand US to get out from Okinawa. Japan should be careful not to inflame the situation as the Okinawans will throw out the US presence there!

-5 ( +3 / -8 )

Fire a warning shot across their bow, like the US Coast Guard does to Columbian drug lord's...after all they pinged on Japan's ship's....then board thier ships and arrest all of the Chinese on board, then bargain their release to stop all this nonsense about the "SENAKU" Island's and their "OWNER SHIP"...!!!

-5 ( +1 / -6 )

Japan learned many good things from China historically. A big gap between the great culture of China and the recent babaric China puzzles me.

-6 ( +3 / -9 )

It's like watching two kids in a sandbox fight over a bucket. Both need to grow up and stop playing the victim.
