A wild boar, about one meter in length, entered a commercial facility in Takamatsu City, Kagawa Prefecture and went on a rampage on Monday night. Five people, including store employees and customers, sustained minor injuries after being bitten by the boar, Fuji TV reported.
According to police, an emergency phone call was placed by a customer at around 6:50 p.m., reporting that a wild boar had entered a shop in Aeon Mall Takamatsu. The female boar caused havoc on the first floor of the shopping facility by knocking down display shelves and attacking people within the vicinity.
The five people who were injured included a second-year junior high school student and a police officer, who were bitten in the leg.
Fifteen minutes after the incident was reported, 10 police officers managed to capture the boar with a net. The animal was killed as police continued to hold it down with sticks and protective shields.

So they beat it to death?

They killed it? Not cool.

Poor animal must have been terrified. If they managed to capture it they could have sedated it and set it free in the mountains.

Settle down all you bleeding hearts! This was a wild boar, an extremely dangerous animal, especially within a confined space. They have killed people! They are also a big problem in many areas of Japan. Obviously, this is one of those areas. Letting it go is such a ridiculous idea. Yeah, let it go so another hunter can kill it? Seriously?

A real wild one in these sedative surroundings. What a pitty so low on the food chain.

why wasn't animal control called?

They could have just used tranquilizer.

After capturing it, they killed it? Sounds like good old hunter-gatherer primitive behavior to me........

If they beat it to death, then its cruel and unnecessary. Cops have guns here. They could have put a bullet into its head or if they had tranquillzers as some have suggested they could have used that too.
Unfortunately, the deer and wild boar are exploding in Japan. We need to get more people out hunting and eating boar and venison to curb their populations so that things like this don't keep happening

There is no mention of the police beating the boar to death, it just says they held it down using their sticks. I assume they shot it dead.
Whilst it is unfortunate this wild animal met its maker, remember that it had already bitten a young junior high school student. As humans, we possess the means to kill wild animals that can seriously hurt our children. Thats why wild boars should remain in the mountains if they want to live longer. Humans evolved by creating weapons, so our children live longer too (as long as we dont use these weapons on each other - which we do).
