I hope they've got enough food and water. Last time I was on a Japanese ferry, there were only a few vending machines and an awful and cramped cafeteria that was only open for about 3 hours despite the long voyage.

If an 'ill person' can be taken off the ferry, how come the other 500 can't also be taken off?

I suppose since it's an overnight cruise with what seems from the website to be quite a lavish buffet, there is plenty of food and water on board, and the passengers would be sleeping till morning anyway so there's no rush0,,,,,,,,.....

In which case 'stranded' seems a bit over the top. Delayed? Since there's a chance (again from the website) that the ferry might go to Osaka instead of Kyushu, diverted?

I do feel for people who thought they were heading for Kyushu but end up in Osaka instead.

Took a 3 day ferry from Osaka to Naha. In winter. Only 3 passengers so no shop or cafe. There was a vending machine but as I don’t eat meat, had to survive on beer. I was told there was shop and cafe on board but closed because no customers. I will never trust again and take emergency supplies. Hope all are safe.

I have found Japanese ferry service to be fine. Eating tasty meat sandwiches while sipping beer and enjoying rhe scenery helps pass the time.

Ha, surviving on beer was a common theme for both Goodlucktoyou and RealCDN. Ferry funny you guys.

Scenery while on the high seas?

Hardly the high seas; Osaka to Fukuoka goes through the Inland Sea; lots of pretty little islands dotted around, and three big bridges that get lit up at night.

About the photo caption: I thought 'berthed' meant attached to a dock?

Because you can't fit 500 passengers onto a patrol vessel.

Since the ship was not in danger of sinking, there was no need to take everyone off.

C'mon Goodluck, I might not agree with all your posts, but "had to survive on beer" .. what a hardship!!
