I don't really support American bases in Japan either, but those bombs are left over from WWII, not from the post-war period.

hahaha, romulus heard the fuss but stayed in bed. the siren in our building sounded and a voice came over the loud speaker. there notes posted all over the building and mail drops for a few days. not one word in English, no attempt to communicate with Gaijins. got home at 5am. had no interest in evacuating. never seen the place so quiet even though we were quite away from the potential blast zone.

why even bother repeating whats in the original article, the obvious some people either dont know how to dread or look for any reason justify their opinion on the us military here in japan. as if removing the US military would let all these 60 year old bombs magically disappear. i really do hope the US military will one say leave japan for good so theyll have to spend trillions of yen on the build up of their own military. lets see japan try to talk to nKorea then..

Well the war has been over for ages, bombs are being found and more will be found, and no body is conducting hate marches against the United States. There isn't much to comment on this article as it's nothing more than just "news".

I don't live in Osaka but I believe there are more than two or three foreigners who may not be able to read Japanese. There aren't that many blind people in Japan but there are those yellow bumps on the sidewalks giving them guidance.

While I believe that repeating the announcement in English would be helpful, not all foreigners in Japan can understand English. Most people in Japan should be able to understand English, after all that's why they're there. The only people who probably can't would be tourists and certainly many tourists can't speak Japanese OR English. Tourists, who can't would either notice people evacuating and go with the flow, or could just ask around 'till they found someone who could explain, whether in hand signs or a rough version of said tourists language.

how about people who just arrived in japan to study Japanese? What if romulus was one of them instead of being the great Japanese understander he is? Romulus blown up because local council is English retarded. My father would have destroyed them. English is not even my first language. It came after Sicilian, Hebrew, and Arabic...they could have at least made an attempt. no attempt was evident, even though I was enjoying my time away from my own house. She did not budge neither. The blast zone was miles away from where the earth already shook. I await the derogatory comments towards the handsome romulus from the local, average, gcom community...lets have at it!

I believe the Kita-ku word office is behind the Ogomachi Park from the Hankyu Higashi-dori Street, or right across the Tenjinbashi Street from JR Tenma station. (Opposit side of the K-1 gym.)

Right, but why presume that they speak English? That's the gist of what I was saying, most "foreigners" in Japan speak Cantonese, Portuguese, or Tagalog if they can't speak Japanese. Too many here on JT equate "gaijin" with "native English-speaker foreigner", who are actually a minority.

My main point is that you can't assume that all foreigners speak English, which is why I said, though English would be helpful it isn't going to help everyone. Just the other day I asked a guy on the street for help turned out he spoke French.

Agree with the posters above. There are many foreigners living and working in Japan from the ME, Asia, etc that cannot speak english or very poorly at best.

But they got one language in common and that is japanese.

In Japan, Osaka is considered Western Japan. The Kansai region is the west while the Kanto region is the East. For instance JR in Osaka is JR Nishi Nihon. The Nagoya region is considered central Japan.
