Of course, the Americans are ready and willing to assist and support any relief efforts if necessary. Thank goodness Okinawa has the Americans there in their time of need.

Seems like it was felt all the way up into Kagoshima as well. Things are back to normal. Haven't been home yet so don't know what's waiting there. Probably nothing I hope.

Only a shindo 4 at the worst, so maybe someone's coffee cup fell over or some papers fell to the floor. I wouldn't worry.

222 km deep will shake / slow rumble... there will not be much damage I shouldn't imagine. Shallow quakes are the dangerous ones

Let's hope this is not a prelude to a big one. Okinawans are prepared for typhoons but I don't think they are well prepared for earthquakes.

A few terrified children at a local elementary school but for the most part they handled it okay. The littler ones handled it better than the older ones. Teachers were okay. Scary to say the least. I prefer not to be at a school when this happens...so sad to see kids so scared. An odd thing is, they were just viewing a mandatory safety video on earthquakes this morning...the same morning of the quake. A smaller one about an hour and a half earlier was felt by some people but I didn't feel it. This coming Thursday they have an (already pre-scheduled) earthquake drill at most of the schools. This was already scheduled before the quake struck. Good that they are practicing this. I still don't agree that evacuating a school is a good idea, I say stay put and ride it out. The chances of an entire building collapsing is far less than children getting hurt by falling debris. In this particular school, there is no open field as most of it is being used to build a new school. So there we stood under multiple power lines with no where's to go. Not a good situation I thought.

There was that 7.2M foreshock on March 9th up here in Tohoku before the apocalypse.

Am off island so I missed the quake in Okinawa. However there was a quake where I am now. However I slept through it and all of the aftershocks. Been through a enough of them, it is no big deal.

Meanwhile, the Kadena AFB facebook page is blowing up with questions like "Is it safe to go out today?" and "Should I leave for the tsunami?" Always get a good laugh out of how panicky people get over little things.

That was a huge earthquake! It probably was the biggest one that I ever felt in Okinawa. I was in the bathroom on the 5th floor and couldn't move at all. I really thought the building would be collapsed. Some people were crying or screaming. After the earthquake and tsunami hit the north part of Japan, everyone has been nervous about earthquake. Especially in Okinawa, if we have a big earthquake like one hit the northern part, the whole island will be gone into the water. That is so scary! I really hope any huge earthquake hits Okinawa... We don't need such tragic damage anymore.
