A 6-year-old boy died after he was hit by a car in Tokyo’s Machida area, police said Thursday.

According to police, the incident occurred at around 11:10 a.m. Wednesday on a street in Aiharamachi, Machida, Fuji TV reported. Citing witnesses, police said the boy, Rentaro Yagi, who lives nearby, was running between cars , where there is no crossing, to join a friend on the other side of the road, when he was hit by the car.

The boy was taken to hospital in a state of cardiopulmonary arrest and was pronounced dead.

Police are questioning the driver of the car, a 75-year-old American man, about the incident.

Sounds like the kid was being stupid. Terrible price to pay for doing so, and now the driver is going to have to pay, too.

When I lived in Okinawa the children would lift their arm in the air and just walk into the street. They did this regardless of whether a car was coming or not. This is the law and school teachers teach the children to do this. That is crazy. I am surprised that children are not killed everyday.

Sounds like the kid was being stupid.

Sounds like he was being a 6 year old. Perhaps his parents were stupid for not watching him or teaching him better.

Yes, I'll second that. And I'm always thinking about my grandkids not to involved in a traffic accident, telling my son and his wife to tell their kids be careful of cars and such. RIP to the 6-year-old boy.

Yes, the kid was being a 6 year old, but it doesn't mean the driver is necessarily at fault.

A 6 year old playing in the street. We have a saying - Your right, dead right but your just as dead as if you were wrong. Kids are a parent's shot at immortality. Take care of them teach them traffic can be dangerous.

Yes, kids will be kids... even if parents persistently teach them, they still don't listen at times (especially at 6 yrs old). I just see it as a very tragic accident. Personally, if there are parked cars blocking my view, I make it a habit to look for kids' "feet" through the underside of those cars as I drive.

This is why I have a drive recorder. People always ask me how much my drive recorder cost (¥5000) and then they suck all the oxygen out of the room. It's already paid for itself, though.

"Sounds like the kid was being stupid"

Sounds like someone lacking empathy.

75 year old driver? Another oldster asleep at the wheel, or maybe hit the accelerator instead of the break?

Sure the kid was in the road but that is no excuse for running over him and killing him.

No one over ht age of 65 should drive. They are just too dangerous.

Have you ever met anyone over 65?

Perhaps no one under the age of 65 should be allowed to post comments.

This was tragic. The boy is dead and his parents will suffer for the rest of their lives. The driver, too.
