Dai-ichi NEEDS protecting from another swamping YESTERDAY.

They are working on that, YongYang, but there are many many many things that need to be done there and all over Tohoku. I think search and recovery of the victims is a higher priority.

Ah, gee! Thanks, YongYang. We would never have thought of that without you!

0 ( +0 / -0 )

All jokes and sarcasm left aside, I agree 100% with YongYang. The last thing we need is not just another 9 magnitude quake, and more stupid problems with radiation leaking etc..from Fukushima.

Hey! We still have electricity still in Sendai. You know what that means. I don't have to use up my NoRinse shampoo and body cleanser tomorrow before work.

The ground had that funky movement about it again.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

@Smork. No they are not. Preventing MORE victims has to be the priority. You're so glib it's macabre.

No they are not. Preventing MORE victims has to be the priority. You're so glib it's macabre.

Let me rewrite my last post.

1) There are already hundreds if not thousands of people involved with the situation at Fukushima Daiichi. They are working on restoring proper cooling systems, stabilizing power and the reactors to keep people safe.

2) 1 month on there are still 150,000 people in shelters and 10,000 people missing. Providing for these victims and finding those still missing must be the highest priority.

Now do you understand?

seems to me that there should be some word that means a mix of glib and macabre.

How about whimsitastical?

Actually, I might be whistling in the graveyard, but I don't think Fukushima Daiichi is in much danger of getting swamped by another tsunami in the next few years at least. There is not enough tension for a megathrust, so the tsunami mojo is about spent. Besides, two orders of magnitude separate a 7.0 quake from a 9.0.

I was in a departo in Chiba city and at least half a dozen women started screaming and running for the exits. The people are panicked and even more paranoid than before.

ANOTHER ONE! CRIPES!

0 ( +0 / -0 )

I was inside my room at home in Ibaraki prefecture. I didn't panick but I stayed inside trying to prevent my books from falling off the shelves, again. It's 20:45 and my home still shakes every 15-20 minutes...FFS

ANOTHER ONE! CRIPES!

Is it just me or does it seem the ground hasn't really stopped shaking since the big one at 5?

**To make room to store some of the 60,000 tons of polluted water, TEPCO has dumped into the Pacific Ocean less-contaminated water from a facility for nuclear waste disposal in the plant.

The nuclear agency said a total of 9,070 tons of liquid have been disposed of into the sea since April 4, in addition to about 1,300 tons of contaminated groundwater from near the No. 5 and No. 6 reactors.**

and by the way....Do this people have any shame? I hope they enjoy radioactive seafood for the rest of their lives.

smorkian - you are totally right, incl the last one at 20.42, there have been 27 tremors above 3, and nearly all of them at Fukushima Hamadori, with the other few close by, makes me wanna cry! (info at 3wdotjmadotgodotjp slash en slash quake)

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Smorkian, it ain't just you, there have been over 260 aftershocks over magnitude 5, and dozens over magnitude 6. I've felt countless small ones since 3/11.

They are working on that, YongYang, but there are many many many things that need to be done there and all over Tohoku. I think search and recovery of the victims is a higher priority.

Yongyang has previously stated that Japan needs a 30m high concrete wall around the entire coast of Japan, as this would "prevent" any inevitable tsunamis from affecting Japan. Clearly, this solution is useless and finding victims and providing for the victims still living from the March 11 quake is the top priority. Yeah... spend months buiding a wall around all of Japan and ignore the survivors...

Disillusioned:

I was in a departo in Chiba city and at least half a dozen women started screaming and running for the exits. The people are panicked and even more paranoid than before.

You were just thinking about surfing (as usual), weren't you?

Why of why do people live here in Japan??!? It's a dangerous place!!

OK... I can understand why Japanese live here. But for the foreigners whose 'home country' is perhaps safer - I know mines is, why do we still live here?!?!

I'm just venting...perhaps at myself... I should be asking...why do I live here? :P

For anybody up north reading this...I can't imagine what you're going through...all these shakes...it would do my nut in, if it were me there!

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Dangerous alright. If you stay, be strong.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

@Smork. I do. You don't. That's OK. @Foreignclip: Post the post where it stated that a 30 meter wall be built round Japan. Don't hold your breath people.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

There's lots to prior. One major and obviously task is indeed to secure the coastal line, where low land is of higher risk to get devastated by a tsunami.

Searching for victims is one thing that goes off on autopilot as tsunamis hits cities. However, we're just one month from 11th march, and if you think things goes badly slow, you can go to your nearest embassy and ask for a voluntary card and help out for yourself.

Thank you.

BTW- these aftershocks do suck...it's like the ground is now made of jelly!

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Something must be done! Something HAS to be done! A giant wall around the coastline, sink tankers, ANYTHING!. Another quake will strike! Do something!

Couldn't find the post where you specified the 30m wall, but let's just say that the above "provisions" you mentioned previously would not have prevented the 7.0 quake today. You can't stop plates from shifting...

Tohoku is well overdue for a break - but things are gonna get better up here, everyone is working pretty well together.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

it's a bit ridiculous to question the "safety" of any place when you consider that regardless of where you live there's always the chance you'll shuffle off this mortal coil in a typically innocuous fashion, such as slipping in the bath and cracking your skull on the porcelain. people have a natural tendency to play up the dangers of unlikely but horrendous disasters, and play down the everyday and mundane threats we face...

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Wow, as per midnight, 45 aftershocks have been registered by JMA since the 7M one. When will this hell stop?

0 ( +0 / -0 )

When will this hell stop?

A seismologist on TV today was saying 1 more year of aftershocks, Foxie...

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Since March 11th there have been 960 aftershocks some of them, arguably, independent earthquake events all on their own. There's a long way to go til the joints settle for a while.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

people have a natural tendency to play up the dangers of unlikely but horrendous disasters, and play down the everyday and mundane threats we face...

Excellent point, griff. Yes, Japan is prone to earthquakes, but we are more likely to die from natural causes or an accident, than in a natural disaster.

@Foregnclip: YOU 'writing' the 'quote' and then posting it won't sell, give us the link. No such entity. Neither was a position put forth where it theorized that 'the plates could be stopped from shifting'.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

There's a long way to go til the joints settle for a while.

yeah, give it another few millenia.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

posting it won't sell, give us the link

can't give the link for individual posts, sorry. but the point is japan will get earthquakes all the time. we need to think logically and calmly, not scaremonger or put in the minds of people crazy and impossible solutions.

I really feel for the people who are scared and worried in japan who post their feelings of misgivings on this site.......Because they are treated in the worst way.......all I can say is be safe............

Well said Utrack.

As we are all aware, by default, every nation has pros and cons in geological nature, most of great civilizations arouse from resilient response to the seemingly insurmountable challenges.

From what I understand, that's why Japan has been at the forefront of the global economy thus far.

And shortly after the clean-up process of radioactive water is complete, the problem at the plant is expected to stabilize soon as plenty of advanced technologies available stand ready to mobilize.

There is no doubt in my mind the prepared technologies are set to win eventually, should my argument prove wrong, I'd stop posting on the web afterwards.

AND now... it is Level 7. Keep 'believing' people.

We're at 4000+ fo Christchuch. You'll get used to it.

Hsr0601 Err... what? The fact that the US poured massive resources into the nation of Japan, gave its industrial base unprecedented access to science and information is what saw Japan become what it is after the sSecond World War, that and a belief to be better than her past.
