It seems that pretty much every single day on the news I hear about a house burning down somewhere. Arson aside, I don't understand how it can happen so frequently from what I can only assume is irresponsibility. A shame that so many people are losing their lives to something that can easily be avoided.

Every time it takes a cold turn, this happens. people get their their heaters out of storage and start using them without cleaning them properly or getting them serviced. Add to that wooden housing, lots of cushions, quilts, kotatsu covers etc. and other flammable items, and you're a goner. This is quite a high number. Poor folk.
