8-year-old boy killed by train in Nara

An 8-year-old boy died after being hit by a train in Yamato-Takada City, Nara Prefecture, on Wednesday.

According to police, the accident occurred at around 4:15 p.m. near a crossing on the Kintetsu Minami-Osaka line. Fuji TV quoted police as saying that Yukito Okabe was playing with five friends when he wandered onto the railway tracks and was hit by the train.

Police said he died at the scene.
