Police said Sunday that 87 young women suffered ailments on Saturday night after a thunderstorm forced the cancelation of an outdoor concert by popular idol group NEWS in Tokyo's Minato Ward.
NTV reported that the concert was being held at Chichibunomiya Rugby Stadium when the storm hit at around 7:30 p.m., accompanied by strong winds. Officials canceled the concert at 7:45 p.m. on the advice of the fire department and police.
Police said that 87 women and young girls, aged from 9 to 40, complained of illness. Of those, 41 suffered symptoms of hyperventilation and hypothermia, and were taken to hospital, NTV reported.

"............suffered symptoms of hyperventilation and hypothermia............"
More like hysteria. What a waste of ambulance and hospital resources.

I saw on a news that some ladies were vomiting blood! Now that is scary...is there some radiation problem?

That a very bad storm that hit last night. I was at the Sumida Fireworks festival it was cancelled in the middle of the show as well.

Classic! I guess they all went into shock cos the hair and makeup were destroyed. On the other side of town, people at Sumida were partying in the rain after the fireworks got cancelled. Crazy contrast!

The over reactions were due to the concert been canceled and the poor girlies being left all worked up without a proper 'ending'.
It never ceases to amaze me at how thunder cells just build up and pummel the Tokyo Bay area. I have been caught before on my way home cycling for the day which made for a dodgy ride between the lighting, the massive downpour and drivers not seeing cyclists and pedestrians. Another time out in Odaiba at AgeHa we had the wildest thunderstorm light show. Scary but well worth it.

I would have helped to treat them if I had been there.
