A 9-year-old boy fell from the 11th floor of an apartment building in Hirakata, Osaka Prefecture, but survived after he landed on a tree, police said Wednesday.
According to police, the incident occurred at around 6 p.m. on Tuesday. NHK reported that the boy and two friends were playing on the 11th floor stairwell, when he lost his balance and fell.
Police said the boy fell about 30 meters, got caught in a tree and then hit the ground, suffering no more than a bruised leg and scratches to his chest.

Thanks, mother nature!

@LFRAgain but what kind of stairwells? Normal High rise stairwells here in Japan are pretty enclosed unless he was balancing on the edge wall.

Lucky . . . and incredibly stupid . . . kid. Hope he learned not to play around in stairwells 11 stories up.

at 6pm on a Tuesday, I am surprised that nobody (especially the parents) saw the kids and told them to stop & that it was dangerous as they were obviously playing on the wall of the stairwell. unbelievably lucky boy this time.

Glad to hear he has been able to keep his bright future . Wasn't there a similar story not long ago where the young boy wasn't so lucky? I hope there is some effort to make a stronger awareness of how important it is children realize the dangers of 'playing' at such heights. Eleven stories should never be treated lightly, that goes beyond childish adventure and fear of danger

Surely he landed "in" a tree....
"On" a tree provokes a seriously unpleasant image.
Wakarimasen
what kind of tree was it?

That tree is a hero!
Whatever pool of luck this kid had is surely dried up now!

I'd like to get this kid to pick my lottery numbers.

I can imagine he'll grow up with a great appreciation for trees. (And possibly a strong aversion to heights!!)
