9-year-old girl dies two days after being found unconscious in Chiba home

Police said Monday that a 9-year-old girl, who was found unconscious at her home in Nagareyama, Chiba Prefecture, died in hospital on Sunday. The cause of death was multiple organ failure, police said, according to Sankei Shimbun.

Police said the child was found unconscious, lying on her stomach, by her 11-year-old brother who came home at around 3:30 p.m. on Saturday. The girl had been at home alone since noon that day, police said. The boy contacted his grandfather who called emergency services.

Police said that when they found the girl, her face was a purplish color and her neck red, but there were no signs of external injury on the body. The apartment showed no signs of forced entry, police added.

The girl lived with her brother and 44-year-old mother who was working at the time.

Wow..that's an odd way to die...wonder if she was poisoned.

Strange story. Sounds like she was strangled or choked to death.

There must be a clue? Home alone with the same brother she was found next too? But I am not a J cop. Does anyone remember the suicide that involved a man cutting off his own genitals throwing them under the bed then repeatedly stabbing himself , it was suicide? I wait for this one to be solved! Aside from that how can anyone kill, taking any life is for a normal person is obnoxious. Taking an 11 yo is beyond, you can not kill children in any society except the animal.

According to the TV news accounts of this case, the mother and brother went out around noon, leaving the girl home alone. The brother found her unconscious when he returned home.

so the neck being red is not bruising (ie external injury), just a color? therefore not strangulation?

I have heard of poisons where your head goes blackish, maybe she drank some strange stuff by accident?

Police said that when they found the girl, her face was a purplish color and her neck red,

snake bite (?)

I am going on this insitful artical!, I am afraid that my trust in JT might be undermined by your input.

About 3.5 hours alone, red neck, purple face. Certainly looks like strangulation. The police may be covering up some other thing like protecting the girl's image.

Not sure what you mean, but the article doesn't say the girl was home alone with the brother, nor that she was found next to him.

3 ( +3 / -0 )

Do people even read the article?

She was found on her stomach by her brother at 3:30pm, she had been home alone since noon so that means something happened between 12:00 and 3:30pm. She had purple skin and a red neck, combined with the multiple organ failure could indicate some sort of poisoning, severe allergic reaction or malnourishment.

Really feel for the poor mum. Sounds like she was a single mother who was working to provide for her family, imagine getting a call at work from the police telling you they found your daughter dead.

Multiple Organ Failure and what causes that?

Police said the child was found unconscious, lying on her stomach by her 11-year-old brother at around 3:30 p.m The story does not say enough about this, I apologise for my jump to conclusion. Makes me a prime candidate for joining the proud and 99.9 conviction rate Polce Force....that is very embarrassing .

This does not sound good for there are now many different, rare, types of dieseases in the world now due to people being able to go from the deepest depths of the jungles to downtown Toyko in a single day with NO way of even seeing if anyone has cought one of those dieseases.

Maybe I've been in Japan too long and forgotten English, but it does seem to say the brother was lying down with her. I think there should be another comma after stomach, but then again maybe I've forgotten the grammar rules? Maybe some of you English teachers can solve this one.

OK, well the article does say she was alone in a different sentence, so we know that was the case. Anyway this will be too mendokusai for the police to figure out so it will likely get wrapped up as a mystery death or suicide.

I don't know what all the confusion is about, I got it with one reading and hadn't seen it on TV first.

Anyhow, I hope there is a follow-up article...

Maybe a spider bite?

It's not really all that confusing but to be technical, yes, there should be a comma after stomach.
