LOL Math is a form of logical reasons

> Maths is logical reasoning. He'd wipe the floor with you.

Lmao! Math is a form of logical reasoning, but there’s this other form called critical thinking.

Why pass an official test (costing money for sure) if there is no goal ?

I've done a number of tests in my life. The goal is to learn more about the subject matter, and challenge ones self.

Yeah, but it doesnt mean the kid will be able to enter college until after he graduates from HS.

eh?? Did the college scandals not make it clear? If you've got millions, you can buy your way into almost any college.

heck donate a building and create a new department like dr dre at usc if you must,

Maybe a foreign university will agree to give him scholarship as he will probably finish a doctorate within a year or so. Then, when over, he can be a kid (when schools out he can too)

Yeah, but it doesnt mean the kid will be able to enter college until after he graduates from HS.

I actually feel a bot sorry for him and his future Math teachers, he is going to be bored as all hell in classes!

(Another problem with a system that does not allow brilliant kids to skip grades and forces them to study along with everyone else!)

So true. Congratulations to him, but for what, if he can’t go on to higher education. If he were elsewhere outside Japan, he would be at university.

Impressive. Now, give him a logical reasoning test.

Maths is logical reasoning. He'd wipe the floor with you.

Best wishes. Let him live a natural happy life. Please refrain from crowding and rushing him. Islam

Fair play to the lad. Wish him the best.

I saw the news about him on tv. He rambles on about math that nobody cares about in an attempt to please those around him. He seems to be lacking in social skills and the ability to read between the lines.

Talking about reading between the lines, how do you know what his social skills are from a brief clip in front of the cameras? How would any of us behaved, aged 9, with all that attention?

Amazing !

Good on yar little fella.

I hope you succeed in all other aspects of your life..

Does or can he want to go to university now ?

If it is just for fun...

By the way, reaching a level at early age is one thing, having a level well above others is another.

Wish him to get pleasure in his achievements for sucessful studies.

Why is this news?

Maybe try reading the article:

Shogo Ando, a fourth-year elementary school student in Nishinomiya, Hyogo Prefecture, passed Suken's top-level 1st kyu test held in October by the Mathematics Certification Institute of Japan.

Ando beat the previous record set by Hiroto Takahashi, who passed the test at the age of 11 last year.

It doesn't sound like something a nine-year-old would say naturally.

And does this kid sound like a normal nine-year-old to you?

Japanese schools and Japanese society as whole are filled with smart and able people. In the west this would be news but not in Japan.

and all those so called smarts kids and Japan has only produced 26 Nobel Prizes !? is there something missing , takes more than just intelligence to produce creative thinkers that can change the world

Impressive. Now, give him a logical reasoning test.

LOL Math is a form of logical reasons

" I hope his parents aren't projecting their own ambition upon him."

Most parents do project their own ambitions upon their children.

Ha, I nearly spit my coffee out all over my display.

I want to read about the success of 9 year olds who had been struggling at school.

I want this Mathematics Certificate Institute to be supporting those who struggle.

This kid obviously won't be struggling with exams or university, so why are we putting the spotlight on him.

Its the usual record breaking nonsense.

Have any of these children, amounted to anything, lots of these children are not psychological ready to grasp the reality of what they are doing, they really not doing for themselves ,but for others, let these children explore life as a child

And then you have this Belgian kid where the parents seem to have got involved too deeply in trying to set a record with him.

I offer my congratulations. He sounds like a boy with natural gifts.

However, I do wonder how much of this is him wanting to pursue this and how much is his parents and other adults pushing him to do it.

I say this because our son is 6 yo. And he has a real aptitude for math. A real aptitude. And a real interest. Now, we could focus all of our and his energy on this area of interest. But.... we don't. He pursues it, we encourage him to pursue it. But we also encourage his reading, his physical activities, etc.

All of that to say that I wish Shogo-kun all the best and hope he finds happiness and success in life.

Regardless of circumstances, an incredible achievment.

I mean 9 years old!!!!!

The worrying part is what happens next?

Back to year 3 elementary school and long division?

Japan's record on allowing super-advanced students to experience alternative tracks is frankly abysmal.

A decade or so ago the hulla-baloo over letting smart kids enter university at the shock, horror, tender age of 17 was deafening.

All the best to him.

"I want to use my mathematics knowledge and contribute to society through research, such as stopping global warming," the boy was quoted by the institute as saying.

Ah yes......childhood imaginations. Its sad to know that later on in life, these dreams may be dashed aside by society and nay-sayers.

Shout out to some of us folks that never had good relationship with numbers lmao.

And congratulations to young one, of course. Wish him an equally successful and happy life.

Amazing... 9 years old! His parents must have put in quite a bit of time guiding him too.... so Congrats to them too for all their hard work.

3 ( +4 / -1 )

I'm reading good news while the anti-Japan crowd sees something negative. Congrats to the kid! Well deserved.

-5 ( +6 / -11 )

Well done to the kid.

i wish him well for the future.

Meanwhile, kids in other countries are busy trying to be the next YouTube star.

oh yeah, because you know kids in Japan never want to become a YouTuber.... slap my head

I mean, it's only the third most popular choice for boys, and 10th for girls.
