I guess the energy deficit expected for the summer is making the priority to get it online now, I just hope everything has been properly done and checked to offer a minimum of safety to the people living at the location.

Nuclear energy is not about guesswork and hoping but about rigorous checks and testing.

However, in Japan lack of management and oversight have led to the the release of radiation after lack of the above.

Having been part of a team which tested the safety systems of these reactor types, I can say NO! to those who want to restart them.

Sounds like the same plan as the one before the tohoku earthquake. Well it will take is one earthquake to knock them all offline again. It might be a good idea to make a plan b. People depend on having power and putting all their eggs in one basket will surely have the same results and maybe more meltdowns.

Erm, Larr, why do we need to face electricity shortages? We face them every summer here, and every year we cut back a little more.

Are you some kind of masochist or ascetic?

A new guard hut, perhaps?

The goverment's first priority is to start building new nuclear power plants to secure stable power supply during hot summers and cold winters. Japan's nuclear technology is one of the cleanest and most reliable in the world. Then we can avoid a third- worldish situation of the government asking people to use less eneregy so that the whoe system will not break down.

Has anyone ever mothball a Nuclear plant and move it to another site? Because I hear Australia is looking at nuclear power grids to complement their coal fired grid.

An aging nuclear reactor in Fukui Prefecture will resume operating in August, about two months earlier than scheduled,

‘That’s reassuring

I'm for restarting all of the reactors as long as they were confirmed to be safe and sound in case of another great Tohoku level earthquake. It's one of the cleanest and cheapest way towards decarbonization.

It is likely ti doesn't bring any peace of mind to the people living close to the plant to know the plant is reactivated "early" after being suspended, specially because of the age of the reactor. But from all the reasons that would have caused the suspension lack of appropriate anti-terrorism measures seems to be less of a worry than the more obvious safety issues that come from its age.
