Parents should stay out of their adult children's business no matter who the parents and children are.

Then again, is someone that lines at home at 28 really an adult?

-6 ( +7 / -13 )

Does anyone really care?

State-financed my ass, I (taxpayers) financed it. This article makes it sound like the diet passed around a hat.

16 ( +17 / -1 )

Don't do it, you still have time to back out gracefully.

9 ( +11 / -2 )

Does anyone really care?

No, which is why it's in the news. Wow.

7 ( +8 / -1 )

Just get it over with. Fumihito does not want a marriage between them.

It is so obvious.

5 ( +6 / -1 )

She needs the The Imperial Household Agency to make clear when they will release her from their control. Incarceration with benifits, still incarceration.

You cannot pass any legal bar, without, graduation first, I never heard of a first year law student, taking the bar exam ,beside he do not have a green card, which preclude him from working as a lawyer in New York, he pulling the wool, over the Royal

The crown prince said this time that his stance "has not changed" from what he said last year, adding he has not spoken with Princess Mako about her marriage or contacted the Komuros.

As the "father of the bride", THEY should be contacting him and letting him know what's up!

There are a few states where you can take the bar without graduating law school first, however I dont think New York is one!

Yrral:

I am always amazed to find people who think they know something by reading gossip articles.

@Yubaru. Daddy is obviously still very much in control.

1 ( +3 / -2 )

Akishono is probably the driving force of the marriage not to be.

Fumihito wants his daughter to declare that the engagement is off, so that he can find a better qualified husband for her.

The Japanese royals are having a bit of the drama we usually see from the Brits.

Drama indeed. But lets face it. Akishono os getting a bit "broad around the beam" (fat) these days.

They just don't want to let go of their children.

-1 ( +1 / -2 )

Princess Mako, please stay away from Komuro. He isn’t good for you.

-4 ( +3 / -7 )

Loves lost dream, emotionally comparable as public/private life will allow. Whether of noble/regal birth or otherwise. Let time take its course.

Humm, Imperial Household Agency could be pressuring both the Crown Prince, Princess Mako to draw a line under or through the whole proceedings.

0 ( +1 / -1 )

It seems to me that Princess Mako still loves her boyfriend but he doesn't love her any more because of his mother's scandal. Crown Prince should understand breakup of her marriage. That's why Komuro is staying away from her and her father.

If I was rich, I also might be hesitant if my daughter marries a guy with his parent heavy in debt.

0 ( +3 / -3 )

How about he talks directly to them rather than through the media.

Everyone knows this was a complete mess, that the guy and his mother are bad news and that the wedding is not going to happen.

Leave it be, dude and be thankful your daughter didn’t make this huge mistake.

-1 ( +2 / -3 )

Yes, I demand an update on the Princess marrying that commoner piece of garbage.

1 ( +3 / -2 )

Don't do it, you still have time to back out gracefully.

What if he loves her?

If she gets preggers, Fumihito's gonna have to get out his shotgun. I realize not everyone will get this joke.

re: "the government has maintained the public nature" hogwash, I wasn't even invited to this public nature, and if those who did go went on their own to catch a glimpse of what can best be captured on TV in the comfort of home. I still think the government should stay out of this and wasting tax funds.

1 ( +2 / -1 )

If they are planning to marry, that would generally mean they are engaged. I note however, she is sans engagement ring.

-2 ( +0 / -2 )

Never liked him or the wife.Shifty as look about them.A real nosy busybody like a woman.

-2 ( +1 / -3 )

The Imperial Household Agency Does not want this marriage to go ahead.

They have made that overtly clear.

2 ( +3 / -1 )

The family backgrounds don’t match. That said, Fumihito hasn’t had to work all his life. He probably doesn’t understand the need to have to borrow money to pay for cram school fees and regular tuition let alone raising a child as a single parent. Is she supposed to turn to some yakuza run lender and pay usurious rates?

And Fordham is probably not good enough for his daughter. If his sister-in-law graduated Harvard, he was looking for Yale Law School or Boalt. Don’t see this happening.

0 ( +1 / -1 )

Everyone cares of course. People need to know that kind of stuff so they can prepare money for the ceremony.

Maybe another tax increase??

1 ( +2 / -1 )

Yeah, Fumihito's fooling no-one (not talking about his hair colour). He's obviously in charge.

0 ( +1 / -1 )

Wow, I can't believe this is still a thing. I thought everyone forgot about the engagement. I did.

This is like from the TV Show, The Office. Where Roy and Pam were engaged for years and years, and it became a running joke on the show. I wonder if the same thing will happen here.

In some states, you don't need a law degree to take the bar, nor do yo need a law degree to become a judge.

It is both good and bad!

28 years old and biological clock ticking and under the media microscope. I wonder how she takes care of business with bf in the States?

-3 ( +0 / -3 )

Very cringe picture and looks like Terrace House Couple.

-1 ( +1 / -2 )

Don't marry that guy, you won't be happy..

Tissue??..

"I believe something must be announced about it."

This is quite an assholish move by the father., trying to publicly embarrass his daughter.

3 ( +3 / -0 )

This is very sad for both of them. This belongs to their private affairs and not in the media nor public. I hope the two are able to work these issues out somehow and move on with their lives. It would be nice to see her get married.

2 ( +2 / -0 )

She better hurry up! Only 2 more years to 30 and then all the suitors will dry up as well as other things.

-3 ( +0 / -3 )

I remember teaching this kid when he attended the Canadian International School in Tokyo. Nice young fella.

2 ( +2 / -0 )

Why ? Is she pregnant ? I guess the longer she stays part of the Royal household the more Tax Payers money she can save up in order to lead a better life, once she leaves .... anyway nothing new here in Japan, about Kids staying longer with the Parents before they can afford to leave home and start off on their own.

Well, didn't he berate his older brother once, simply because he said something 'wrong'?

1 ( +2 / -1 )

The Crown Prince seems to be a little ……...out of sorts of late, little too much stress me thinks!

-1 ( +0 / -1 )

Follow your heart Princess for better or worse.

1 ( +1 / -0 )

The Prince seems to think the possible marriage is all about the Prince, and not the Princess. He should publicly apologize for sticking his lamebrain where it didn’t need to be.
