Very best wishes for the new Emperor.

I think he will be a great ambassador and take things further to heal old wounds and forge stronger ties with his neighbors.

With his maturity and long experience as "Emperor-in-waiting" as well as his international outlook the Reiwa Emperor is well-positioned to represent a more modern image of Japan. The Heisei Emperor's legacy is in safe hands.

I had a feeling this would be the main story.

Thank you Emperor Naruhito! Amazing speech. He has “big shoes to fill” of his father Akihito who was the greatest Emperor of all time. But he is young, and he will do a magnificent job representing Japan around the world.

Women MUST be allowed to attend all and every aspect of the ceremony for it to have any legitimacy as an institution.

Didn't he have a mustache? Or, am I thinking of his brother?

Ganbare. Do yu think that he will go it alone, or seek advice from his father from time to time?

As he was brought up by his dad he well knows the quality of the mans shoes he fills today. Now he is what he knew he'd have to become. Let's wish him well.

And so Reiwa begins

@ ex Res - my thought is, Akihito will always be around to advice the Emperor. You cant really retire entirely from this job! Too complex, and knowledge must be passed down over time. And Akihito and Michiko will continue to travel when they can , to lift the spirits of Japanese citizens, for example disasters, health allowing.

The new Head of State has promised to uphold the constiution.

Perhaps one of the most pressing tasks of the Reiwa period is Law Reform.

It has been seen recently that the Constitution is not being applied with regards to law.
