Maezawa makes the announcement and the ship explodes days later!

That spaceship was a metaphor for Maezawa' life at the moment!

Spacecraft explodes after offer for free trip around the moon” - That idea went nowhere quick.

It's too bad that increased wealth doesn't increase one's compassion and common sense.

@theFu

Imagine being trapped in a small RV with that guy for 2 weeks

It's a week long mission; 3 days to go, 3 days to return, 1 day for getting around the moon.

@theFu, You have to admit the Earth is still a pretty nice place with decent food.

Imagine being trapped in a small RV with that guy for 2 weeks as the can heads to, around and returns from the moon. No shower for anyone. Setup 5 "Big Brother"-like cameras and let the world see how boring it is for all but about 5 hrs.

I can stare at stars and geography for hours, but after seeing it for a day, even I'd get bored.

Dragon isn't going on the around-moon mission.

Humans need to get off Earth and learn to life in space. Then we need to branch out to other locations. The Earth is a death trap. Most places in our solar system are death traps, useful for learning as we migrate to other star systems. It has been known for 50 yrs that life on Earth will end.

I think we will all be killed by gamma radiation from a supernova. The supernova may have happened already and the light/gamma rays are already headed here. We won't know. We'll all be killed - world-wide. The speed of light is finite, so it could take tens, hundreds, or thousands of years AFTER the event happens before it gets here and kills everything.

If that doesn't happen, when the sun becomes a red giant, it will expand and boil off all the water on the planet - including any remaining animals.

The Earth is a death trap.

Is he a billionaire in Japanese Yen terms or in some murky foreign currency? Without further info, I'll assume it's Icelandic Krona.

I think Maezawa is confused.

Elon sold Maezawa single seat, not the whole CrewDragon which can't fit more than 4 on long-range missions anyway.

I'd consider it if we actually land on the moon. Going 220k + miles into trans lunar orbit is spectacular but somehow dispiriting. Had the same feeling for Christmas 1968 NASA Astros. It the final 50 miles to the lunar surface that is the best rush!

Please, please pick one of the flat earthers. Ideally one that is promoting the whole thing in order to prove them wrong!

1 ( +1 / -0 )

Look at the bags under his eyes. Its either from staying up late partying or where he hides his billions!

0 ( +1 / -1 )

It seems the rich just got more stupid! Elon has idea's, its his money that put the ideas to work, not his know how! Money can buy the best minds, if you have money you can pay for things to happen, information cost and that is what he pays for to get his name on an idea. Stupidity cost nothing, because if he didn't have the money the idea would go no where and he would be just one loony tune with wild thoughts ready to be committed. I wonder if Maezawa is buying insurance for these guest? One thing I would say is this, I am a aerospace engineer with advanced degrees and have been part of the team that launched most, if not all the space shuttle missions trained astronauts for the international space station. If Maezawa knew what I knew he would keep his money in his pocket and stay grounded. He has two shots takeoff and landing, the most critical of all phases of flight. From my experience anything SMALL thing can make a big thing and there is no point of return.

1 ( +1 / -0 )

Damn. Already used all my paid holiday up.

1 ( +1 / -0 )

What an awesome idea, what a great way to spend your billions you've made! It can only help move technology along to make space travel more accessible in general, too.

-1 ( +3 / -4 )

This guy is crying out for attention. The average Japanese person can't relate to him, and surrounding himself with gold diggers is getting boring. Other international billionaires probably do not take him seriously.

I wouldn't be surprised if was not depressed. His thrill seeking to " feel something" is becoming an escalating commitment.

A Rich Clown is still a clown!!

Eat the Rich, Its the only thing that they are good for!!

Aerosmith.

During this time there are people making every effort and taking public transports to reduce the humanity carbon footprint.

Maezawa said he is not in training - which he expects to take a few months at most - but is watching his alcohol intake and exercising while spending a few hours a week considering the mission.

Good to hear you're taking this seriously....................here's an idea. How about cutting out alcohol and insanity first?

"I'm only preparing mentally," said the fashion guru,

How? By playing golf and driving fast? Neither of them can be done in space, but sounds legit.

> Last year he launched a short-lived documentary search for a new girlfriend to join him on the trip before pulling out citing "mixed feelings."

Haha, I'm guessing one of three reasons why he stopped it. Either, they were gross (maybe), she there were only golddiggers (no sh#!) or he got a bunch of trolls and man pics? (most likely.)

Dude, if you have this much money to blow, why not build some hospitals, fund some covid vaccine needles, or start some social welfare office that help homeless, single mothers or orphans or something instead? Never mind Terrace House from Space.

4 ( +5 / -1 )

Sure. Count me in.

-1 ( +1 / -2 )

Talk about attention seeker.

6 ( +8 / -2 )

Mellon will get to the moon first.

-3 ( +0 / -3 )

That's one offer I won't be taking up. I'd be scared out of my mind going up in a private ship. Scary enough with a national space agency backing you.

4 ( +4 / -0 )

I'll pass. Maybe when I'm in my 80s. Good luck with that.

4 ( +4 / -0 )

It's saddening to hear that such insensitive people have the courage to plan such a trip when the whole world is going through these turbulent times - Covid, unemployment, poverty, social injustices, etc.. These people make no contribution to humanity.

6 ( +11 / -5 )

Wonder if he will be the first man using a fax machine on the moon.

That would be very japanese of him.

7 ( +8 / -1 )

Kudos to Musk for all he’s done for sustainable energy. But, as we head deeper into the climate crisis, how does offering flights to the moon and populating Mars (a dead planet which is not ours to populate) actually move humanity forward?

-2 ( +5 / -7 )

Didn't 27,722 women waste their time with Maezawa's previous contest, which Maezawa then called off?

I have already started saving. Stop drinking to assist with both fitness and fundraising. He looks happy.

0 ( +3 / -3 )

Could they make the voyage one way for him and his special guests?

3 ( +10 / -7 )

It seems that he doesn't know what to do with his money.

15 ( +16 / -1 )

ka-BOOM!

It's gunna be a "no" for me, thanks.
