This is a great propaganda piece for Japan. Well played,, Kyodo.

I managed not to watch it ...at all.

Come on now, making this comment for the "foreigners" is unnecessary.
Japanese weren't allowed in either, and guess what, for security reasons too!

8 out of 10 foreigners are always fascinated by Japan thing. Lots of proof that Japan has the most travel videos on Youtube and most comments are 'i really wanna go Japan someday' and 'i want to go Japan again, missed so much'.

We had the old emperor and his wife drive past us in kyoto last year, it was fantasic to see people genuinely excited to see them, good luck to his son.

Nihon Sugoi!
And not a single one of the tourists mentioned the outrageous cost or the typhoon victims living in shelters!

I was fascinated by the emperor's black hat.
That long floppy paddle thing looks really cute!

I didn't go in person but watched it on TV, although very few Japanese people of my age seemed interested in it. I suppose as a foreigner I feel like it'd be a waste to not watch these huge historical and cultural events while I'm in the country, even if the events are not that interesting to me personally I still want to experience the history myself.

@kurisupisu how did you manage to do that??

It was a struggle and I almost gave in but summoning every last ounce of willpower, I went for a walk...

They possibly understand that the cost is not outrageous relative to the size of the Japanese economy.

put it that way I suppose and when you compare it to another head of state that spends about $40million
on taxpayer funded golf trips well it doesn't seem so extreme now.

Easy, I am the same as him! Vegged out on Netflix!

ah Netflix even the worst shows are better than Japan TV, without the internet or Netflix Id probably be in a mental asylum about now.
