Remain vigilant?

Meaning what exactly?

11 ( +15 / -4 )

Due to Osaka’s surge, Tokyo should become “Quasi-vigilant”? Who would think one area connected by high-speed mass transit could affect another quickly?

7 ( +11 / -4 )

I really hope I'm wrong, but the same wave is probably going to hit Kanto region soon. The problems in Kansai are being fueled, not only by a lack of vigilance, but by the highly infective new variants.

3 ( +9 / -6 )

I'm confused.

Is quasi-vigilant above pseudo-vigilant but below ersatz-vigilant on the government's scale of faux-vigilant, or is it the other way around?

Enough with the 建前, dear leaders. Tell us like it is.

5 ( +8 / -3 )

What does remain vigilant mean? Wrong words are used in the article. It is a dang Virus! Being "vigilant" does NOTHING! This is once again L A U G H A B L E.

3 ( +7 / -4 )

Could this look like an orchestrated way to eventually blame Osaka for the inevitable cancelling of the “Tokyo Olympics”?

- “the situation warrants ‘extreme caution’, ...warned that a surge in the Tokyo metropolitan area could affect the whole country.” -

After two ripples, and a wave(January) , the third ripple is coming.

We remain quasi-vigilant, as we have always been.

Hopes the LDP members will also remain vigilant while dining and enjoying the Ginza bars.

12 ( +12 / -0 )

Remain vigilant while the health ministers and other government officials continue to late night wine and dine at expensive izakayas.

Were those ‘ripples’, ‘undulations’ or waves? @didou 7:33am:

“After two ripples, and a wave (Jan) , the 3rd ripple is coming.” -*

According to @2020hindsights Apr 6 in “Gov't fears COVID-19 variants are behind possible 4th wave

- “ 1st wave peaked around Apr 15 2020. The 2nd wave peaked around Aug 8 2020. The 3rd wave peaked around Jan 10 2021.” -

@snowymountainhell

Technically , it is a wave, like the water rising 10cm due to a Tsunami, technically it remains a Tsunami.

But when we look at the graph, the 1st and 2nd wave do look much more like an undulation.

Closing bars at 8pm will result in a reduction of new cases. However, they’ll bounce straight back as soon as the restrictions are lifted just as they have now. Pay people to close their bars and restaurants, close schools and wipe the virus out. The initial cost will be nothing compared to what it’s going to cost with this virus scenario dragging on for possibly years.

Took the train from Ikebukuro to Ginza and I did not see much in terms of vigilance. I do not know why the word vigilance was used because there is no real meaning to this word if you do not add specifics. No detail in just saying vigilance. Poor communicator at best.

All these urges give me an urge!

4 ( +5 / -1 )

I'd love the government minister to explain in specific detail exactly how to remain vigilant to the threat of an asymptomatic person going about life as normal. How should I identify such a person? Social distancing etc. etc. I get that, but that doesn't help so much when taking a train, or sitting in my office for 5 or 6 hours a day.

Remain vigilant - watch out for those pesky viruses; look back over your shoulder and under the table; they know to come after you when the clock strikes 20:00 in Osaka or 22:00 in Tokyo.

Remain vigilant?

meaning mina san ganbatte. Cause we ain't doin SQUAT

I was browbeaten into going to an izakaya in a large Japanese city, but not Tokyo or Osaka, last weekend by some friends. The izakaya was fine but then we went to a bar. I didn't go in because the bar was packed. Was pretty ridiculous. Even if those young people are confident in their own immune systems, don't they want life to return to normal? I understood why China, even though being much more crowded, can almost eradicate the virus in a few months while Japan just gets worse and worse a year on.

Can the health minister please tell the education minister to give up his ridiculous plan of sending university students back to f2f classes? 20 somethings are the largest group getting infected, and in less than 2 weeks, millions of university students will be back on campus, with very little social distancing going on, I assure you.

Wear a mask (maybe 2) correctly and always when in proximity of other people. Use a new one everyday.

Wash your hands properly and frequently. Never touch your eyes, nose or mouth with unwashed hands.

Keep some hand sanitizer on you at all times. Extra masks too.

Wear a mask when dining, removing it only between mouthfuls of food or beverages.

Always maintain social distance.

Avoid crowds.

Don't talk or laugh too loud.

Go out only when required and keep it to a minimum (stay home as much as possible).

Cook at home or order take-outs.

Dine only at establishments that have implemented proper preventive measures.

Now, having done all the above, what else is there left to do until effective vaccines are rolled out for everyone?

Oh, yes. I almost missed one..."STAY VIGILANT".

i will do my utmost to follow the rules and guidelines outlined by the medical experts. i stand to attention and salute the health service advisory for their reminder to stay vigilant. i hope others here will do too....

This is all very amusing to me as I sit back in Australia enjoying all my social freedoms after a couple of weeks of inconvenience. Japan will never beat this virus.

Please do not give that crap about population size. Australia has cities too you know. Cities that were locked down with curfews and business closures. Now, after all the strict conditions Australia’s economy is on the rebound. The same can’t be said for Japan. With all these ‘quazi’ restrictions and ‘urges’ from an incompetent government Japan be under the cloud of this virus for many years to come. The vaccine is not the silver bullet to end the virus. Only vigilance and sacrifice will stop this virus. It will not be stopped by complacency and apathy. TIJ!

-3 ( +5 / -8 )

"...even as the prefecture has toughened measures in an attempt to stem a sharp rebound in infections."

This tells you all you need to know at how completely clueless they are about the virus and how pathetic their 'toughened measures' are. Just like the boat that docked in Yokohama a year ago, they have learned zero about how to dealing with it other that paying lip service to the populous.

Well Osaka made little effort as a city to actually combat the virus.

Whenever the schools got Corona Virus they simply shut for a day and reopened. There was also no way to get a test until recently, even if you thought you may have it.

And its also quite apparant that there isnt 700 cases in Osaka, probably more like 70,000 since the entire nation did only a couple thousand tests, do the math.

Do the hustle

Australia is not a place I’d wanna be in. I have many friends there too and over the last year they have lost a lot! They had to stay in for months and months and many lost their jobs.

Australia hasnt vaccinated all the kidz, so it too will “never beat the virus” (according to your logic and figuring toward Japan)

-2 ( +2 / -4 )

This is all very amusing to me as I sit back in Australia enjoying all my social freedoms

If you are in Australia, why do you care about what Japan does or doesn’t? On what ground do you give yourself the right to give lessons to others on a subject you don’t understand. Just enjoy then your so called social freedom that you were so easily giving up in the first place.

The vaccine is not the silver bullet to end the virus.

Science says it definitely is. And you have zero competence to dispute that point.

-3 ( +2 / -5 )

The only way is to have a mass event and force people to run around almost all prefectures without masks

0 ( +1 / -1 )

Australia has cities too you know.

Ridiculous to compare Australia and Japan. The coldest major population center in Australia is warmer than Osaka let alone Tokyo and further north. Can compare Japan to China, Korea, Italy or USA. Japan has managed it poorly compared to China and Korea but very well compared to Italy and USA.

-4 ( +2 / -6 )

I think we are going to see a tsunami in the coming weeks. Hanami parties, entrance ceremonies, "drink with the new boss and coworkers" parties and new variants of Covid-19 are going to cause a significant ripple in the kiddy pool.

1 ( +2 / -1 )

Remain vigilant means, as you see the virus heading your way, just smack it! lol

1 ( +1 / -0 )

thepersoniamnow - Australia is not a place I’d wanna be in. I have many friends there too and over the last year they have lost a lot! They had to stay in for months and months and many lost their jobs.

You have no idea what you are talking about. Australia does not need to inoculate kids because there are only a handful of community transmissions. Those that are recognized are quickly dealt with by isolation and lockdowns of the areas where the virus occurs.

How many people in Japan have lost their jobs and cannot return to work because the virus is still flaring up? How much are businesses losing every day for over a year because Japan will not take strong action against the virus? Living in a bubble of denial is blissful, until something bursts the bubble.

-1 ( +1 / -2 )

I have no idea?

How would you know what I know? Read ur statement, Australia does not need because theres only a handful of....

Actually all must be innoculated. Theres less Aussies on earth than people in the Osaka Hyogo Kyoto area.

I’ve lived and worked in 6 continents, but havent been to Australia. I am certainly no expert, but I don’t claim to know it all like you either.

"Remain vigilant" in this case is a cry of utter despair.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

After reading Aussie news, it seems like Australia is having a real hard time keeping its promises to its people to be first to vaccinate everyone.

People have been cooped up for months. Can’t like the anti asian violence and racism that goes on too.
