Scrambling? It was announced and before that an unnamed sources said the government were considering 10 WHOLE days off. And it's here 10 WHOLE days of mass holidays and hospitals are now scrambling? It would appear that hospital management plan for the next hour, the next day whoooo, next month whoooohooo. I am amused and shocked. I've never read news anywhere in the world that presents holidays as unprecedented or causing such social disorder. There is definitely something wrong. Thank god I still get my "Premium Friday" during this time of shocking confusion.

Just had an unscheduled emergency op and the hospital obligingly managed to fit me in despite the pressure of the impending long holiday. Many thanks to the docs and nursing staff, many of whom only get three to five days off each year, in total!

Cricky: " It was announced and before that an unnamed sources said the government were considering 10 WHOLE days off."

May have been announced they were CONSIDERING, as usual, but was never confirmed that they WOULD. This has been crap planning from the get-go. That's not excusing the hospitals and clinics; they run like businesses and that's what you get. Places that are staying open are doing so in part -- at least some -- because they can make a mint charging for "special" visits and treatment.

zichi: "This might become serious. What happens if there is a disaster or major accident involving a large number of victims and the hospitals are closed with the doc's on Waikiki Beach?"

Welcome to Japan. When hospitals and clinics usually keep only business hours anyway despite most or at least more accidents occurring on holidays, it's already a disaster. This "seriousness" it could become may well be the start of Reiwa.

"Many medical institutions have secured personnel well ahead of the holidays, but those that are still short have decided to offer higher pays," said an M Stage official.

Why can't other industries raise salaries with the acute labor shortage we are being told exist.

It is just logical that when demand exceeds supply prices increase

Bank Holidays in Britain are disruptive and they are only one day.

Evidence for your claim, please.

ATM's won't be serviced and normal bank transfers will be stopped.

That's not what my bank says. It's the largest in Japan.

弊行では、連休期間中もATMのご利用、インターネットバンキング等による即時振込など、お客さまのお取引に影響がないよう万全の準備を行なっております.

We have made every effort to ensure that during the extended holiday you will be able to use ATM and Internet banking for transfers and other transactions as usual.
