That looks boss!

Cool, kinda looks like Snoopy’s nose.

I was thinking about this yesterday. We are lucky that we live in an era where we can still get on the shinkansen without too much trouble. Buy a ticket, go through the gate and get on. Not like boarding an airplane.

Railroad cars have become very modern. But I always feel a disappointment when I see the modern trains still run on track lines laid on gravel.

The best train service in the world!

I still think the 500 series was the sexiest

I want to travel all around Japan on these trains.

Can't wait, just need to work and save some more :)

I love all of the technical advances and the increasing speed of the new Shinkansen models.

BUT.... nothing was more awesome than the original 0 series in the 1970s, sitting in the shokudo having the American breakfast while going whizzing past Mt. Fuji.... it was something pretty special.

As was having an evening beer in the shokudo on the 2nd floor of the Grand Hikari in the 1990s on the way back to Tokyo from Osaka!

It made the trips a little extra special!

China will soon steal intellectual properties on these and make it their own. Sad but true!

Very romantic, but the women who push the snacks trolleys have tired and dusty shoes from walking all day up and down the aisles, on just about the fastest train the world. Fast for us, no change in the work for them. But they still manage a smile!

The most fascinating part is that the nose part are all hammered into shape manually like Ferrari.

-5 ( +0 / -5 )

Triring, you do not think the nose is formed by a special mold/mould, like for body kits?

It needs Evangelion and Hatsune Miku exterior paint and interior theme to seal the deal... for having the best & coolest bullet train in the world!

-2 ( +2 / -4 )

Great stuff, but another shinkansen with another long nose.MMMMmmmm.

Doesn't really excite me.

Something new for the Chinese to start copying, so that the Americans can afford it..

-3 ( +4 / -7 )

The best "Train Service" I have seen where I have travelled, but, I don' think they have to keep making these changes!

zichi, hahaha, it is you again. China has the best and the longest technologies in the bullet train field overall. Please identify which technologies that China steals from Japan, as a govt ? Individually speaking, thieves anywhere, even in Abe's office and at Abe's home. As a nation, Japan has so many things steal from China for so many thousand years. As a generous neighbor, China never charged Japan for even a penny, though Japanese govt display those valueless items in museums, collecting huge amount of monies. There is no Japan without stealing things from China, as simple as that. Please learn to read Japanese characters and learn to eat Japanese noodles, and Japanese rices, and learn to use Japanese chopsticks, and perhaps marry a Japanese girl, and have a Japanese baby, and have a look at the baby's blue marks, you will know what I mean.

Unbelievable! No one wver thought it could be improved, but JR have realized it! Safe, always on time, relaxing and fast as lightning! And the millions Salaryman who travel every day on it can drink beers in there whilst commuting! My foreign friends cannot believe it, its impossible in overseas Nations they say!

I reluctant to travel on other train services and flight after the first time we travel on the Shinkansen from Tokyo to Hakada in 1995. It was my best experienced with travel on the Shinkansen. We have taken pictures on the train. I believe current Shinkansen is faster and better than first Shinkansen model. Japanese High Speed Railway system is second to none because Japanese Company was investing billions of dollars in High Speed Railways system for many decades.

However, the French TGV seats are better than the Shinkansen's seats but not the train or service.

Most Japanese people I know traveling with families do so bay car because the Shinkansen is too expensive. Sadly, the only people who can afford these are businessmen (travel paid by employer) or tourists who buy the JR Rail Pass (not available to the Japanese). The last thing we need is another faster train--like the bid-rigged maglev project--that the general population cannot afford, unless for the sake of vanity.

Like it. It is very original !

Find me a place to put two big suitcases and I’d love to use it more but unfortunately that is not what the Shinkansen is for.

I guess some people are completely ignorant of the limitation of cold metal press.

You can't make sheet metal into a complicated 3D shape by merely pressing it in a mold.

It will create crests and tear if you do.

Looks ok, a bit out of this world and all but the price of travelling on these trains is so high and also a bit out of this world. Wish they could come up for a remedy for this. I do believe these trains are subsidized already by other means such as toll fees from expressways for cars. This makes going distances by car expensive too.

So..instead of elongating these trains' noses all the time how about working on giving the riders/passengers the ability to go further for every ¥ spent. Mobility of any means is too expensive here. These trains are part of this 'problem'.

Giving great deals to tourists while making residents pay dearly just doesn't seem right.

As the speeds have increased over the years, I've noticed a greater lateral movement (a sudden shake) when 2 trains meet, at a combined closing speed of 600 kph or more, especally in tunnels. A necessary improvement.

I believe the shape is to decrease wind resistance. The toyota estima is designed in a similar fashion.

That highly skilled Professor (forgot his name) of Japan Railway Programme on NHK, is the very first one to get excited. He is the Densha Otoko.
