Finally! Now let’s hope they can get it distributed and administered is a faster time frame. I hope they provide bi-lingual certification for those that may need some kind of vaccination passport in order to travel.

...and once taken out kept refrigerated and used within five days.

A. Ok, so last week they were negotiating with super deep freezer manufacturers, but suddenly they were all made and available? Magic?

B. And now we are finally told they can be removed from the deep freeze to a regular refrigerator and stay in that for five days? What t is going on and why wasn't that information put out to the public, World Wide months ago?

I’m glad they are carefully deciding which experimental vaccine to disseminate to the population.

No Pffizer thanks!

How can they be so sure that it will be approved, and yet schedule a very specific date for approval? Shouldn’t the just approve it, the moment they know that it is approved?

You know, in Japan, everything is planned. There is not much left for surprises.

Deep freezers for complete vaccination of the population are much more difficult to get than those necessary for just 20,000 people, for the first stage is likely the available stock of refrigerators are enough.

That has been known for months, unless you plant to end the vaccination runs in less than 5 days obviously you need to store the vaccine in deep freezers.

That is probably taboo in Japan, if the approval is to be done in a programmed meeting there is apparently no power on Earth that could make that meeting happen sooner, even when everything else is already finished.

Fascinating the window in to the Japanese psyche this whole saga has provided!

What has surprised me is in an emergency situation how little room for flexibility there is in Japanese social structures, a more rigid rules orientated approach in normal circumstances is understandable but the failure to change and react in exceptional situations is indicative of an underlying and deeply rooted malaise.

The interesting question to be watched for is will changes be made to the overly regulated system as to who can give vaccinations so as to accelerate the roll out to meet their planned delivery ahead of the still planned Olympic Games?

Though I am not going to rush to take it either, my folks finished the 2nd shot and are still alive to tell me the story.

I hope there will be punitive measures for people who refuse the vaccine without a valid medical reason.

Maybe some kind of tax break for those vaccinated. We are taking the vaccine not for ourselves but for the rest of society - protecting those who cannot have it because of health reasons. Of course we cannot force them to take vaccines, but If people refuse to do it for society, then society doesn't owe them anything in return. They will be the sources of outbreaks and variants in the future. Travel restrictions will be one definite measure. I would also like to see admittance to large events restricted along with employment.

Does that mean that you, the government and pharma companies will also be willing to accept punitive measures for those you pressured to take the vaccines and who suffer vaccine injury or death as a result?

@virus: Total respect for your knowledge.

Did research on the deep freeze vaccine and out of deep freezing before usage and come up with nothing. Can you give us a link on that. I lack that knowledge base. Thanks

Well.

I did a simple search and in less than 10 seconds (literally) came up with lots of articles relating to it.

There are hundreds, but the BBC should suffice:

How will we keep the Covid vaccine at a cold enough temperature?

Japan wasn't hit very hard by the pandemic. So this won't happen.

Clinical trials conducted abroad on around 43,000 people showed those who took the vaccine were 95 percent, or twenty times, less likely to get COVID-19 than those in a control group who did not. The drugmaker also tested the vaccine on 160 people in Japan.

This is why new drugs are so slow. I've seen some companies take 4-5 years to get approval for a simple medical device.

A local company must be created and doctors and political consultants have to be hired, and after local testing, the approval is only licensed to the local company. This creates a lot of barriers to entry.

So, I am very surprised that we are not looking at 2024 before a vaccine was approved.

Given the cost, treatments for rare diseases are unlikely since there wouldn't be a return on investment.

@Peep: maybe my VPN and service provider messing things up. Thanks for the link

How to store the vaccine at low temps. Peeps posted this above. Not sure why I could not find this.

@Peeps! Thanks again.
