I have never understood why Japanese people - who must have experienced how futile it is to try to beat a 60-km/h wind with an umbrella - still try to do that every single time there is a typhoon. And then think it's OK to leave Beautiful Japan littered with brolly skeletons.

Yep, and when they strike on weekdays, you'll spot people in Otemachi, Marunouchi, etc. enduring the pounding horizontal rain with not just umbrellas but also wool business suits, skirts dresses and leather dress shoes.

Tomorrow morning, if it's still pounding, I'lll be commuting in downtown Tokyo once again as the "crazy foreigner" -- in my Gortex jacket, quick-dry gym shorts and rubber Teva sandals. Trousers, socks and shoes will be packed in my backpack protected by a rain cover. I expect to get a lot of stares from fellow besuited commuters.

When there is a typhoon, this time a 'super typhoon', I wonder why anybody leaves home?

Tomorrow is going to be tough commute to work. Maybe have to leave early or take taxi since train may have delays.

This is when a bit of Australia culture comes in handy. Chuck a sickie folks. Ride it out smart, watching Netflix with your loved ones.
