Can you imagine the number of new Covid-19 strains that would emerge if you brought people from all over the world together for two weeks?

23 ( +25 / -2 )

Looks like Japan may have it’s own variant. Maybe they will stop seeing the pandemic as foreign problem. The big issue is that many countries will now put Japan on a red list, looks like I’ll be having to hotel quarantine when I go back home next month.

13 ( +13 / -0 )

Is that the Japan strain ?

12 ( +18 / -6 )

And I will bet that the authorities only know the individuals, and have ZERO contact tracing for these specific cases as well.

There has been little information regarding the "strains" of the virus being shared publicly until now.

12 ( +14 / -2 )

The variant is believed to have come from overseas

Of course because Japan is immune to the virus so the possibility of being a japanese strain is immediately out of the table.

More propaganda, we like it.

11 ( +17 / -6 )

so it's not UK Brazil or SA? gulp

From the information released it can't be known for sure, the name indicates one single mutation, but variants have many different mutations so this could be any of the previously identified new strains (just with some differences) or it could be just another that appeared in the same way.

vaccines are useless as are ineffective in case of these strains, except Sputnik, but yes, thanks to NO from japanese side Sputnik is not available and highly likely will be not available for us here.simply because its russian.

This is not supported by the scientific data, the vaccines derived antibodies are still neutralizing for these strains but not to the same degree, that is a very long shot from being useless.

And no vaccine can be used in Japan without being first approved, and no vaccine is approved without the manufacturers applying for it to the government and fulfilling the requirements, If the makes of Sputnik are not interested in the Japanese market it is not like someone can force them to apply.

That's why the Chinese vaccine (or Rusian one?) might be better; but it's a Chinese vaccine so

That would require for antibodies against other proteins to be also neutralizing, which is not something automatic, if the antibodies are made against proteins that are not exposed in the virions then it will not matter how many are produced. To be able to examine that, very detailed results have to be available which is the weak point of the Chinese vaccine, All other vaccines also can be said that work "well" against the new strains, because the antibodies still are able to neutralize it, the devil is in the details.

Another thing is that if any of the other proteins in the vaccine is similar to something in the body the risk of autoimmune problems increase, and since there is no intracellular viral RNA to be recognized, the immune reaction is biased over inflammatory processes, which are part of the known mechanisms for serious complications.

"It is regrettable..."

How many times do I see this phrase every month.

5 ( +5 / -0 )

Well, we're doomed. Let's slow down the vaccine roll out some more...

4 ( +6 / -2 )

This means absolutely nothing and just promoted by government, social media tech companies and media so they can keep this hoax going until we all live in a neo feudalistic society.

@JT I presume if you’re going to remove lighthearted posts then you’re also going to remove this conspiracy nonsense too.

Meanwhile, five staff and 39 foreign detainees at a Tokyo immigration facility have tested positive for COVID-19.

I am very skeptical about those strains originating in other countries and running rampant in foreign countries.

There is basically a ban on tourism right now so the chances of inter-continental strains popping up is low.

Yet, the panic controllers are somehow blaming the imprisoned at detention centers?!?

I’d be looking at the prison officers as possible sources rather than the detainees, just like the Hyogo cops who started their own little cluster from a drinking party...

"It may be more contagious than conventional strains, and if it continues to spread domestically, it could lead to a rapid rise in cases," Kato said.

However Japan will remain at a very low testing level, as that is the way to keep numbers down, not by contact tracing, identifying clusters and breaking the chain of transmission...

Where?

3 ( +4 / -1 )

Amazing isnt it, people coming through the airports everyday and the idiots in charge wondering how come there are new strains of a virus now in the country.

3 ( +5 / -2 )

That's what happens when you allow your own nationals back from infected regions and then just say you can go home on public transport and don't need to quarantine if you don't want to.

3 ( +3 / -0 )

"Many detainees are locked in a small, closed spaces," said Motoko Yamagishi, the head of a migrants-rights group. "It is regrettable that such an outbreak happened in the centre."

Perfect conditions for a virus to incubate. Nothing was learned from the outbreak on board the Diamond Princess cruise ship.

Yubaru

Depending on the type of info you’re looking for, the Biorxiv and the Medrxiv preprint sites have a lot of info on the genetics, demographics, etc, of the variants.

The immigration detention facility in Ushiku is a hellhole with many horrific stories coming out of it. This news is not a surprise.

so it's not UK Brazil or SA? gulp

and yet, I still see an abundance of Japanese Adult males walking around without masks like it's all G.

I guess the rising cases will remain a mystery forever...................(heavy sarcasm if you can't understand.)

1 ( +6 / -5 )

Is Japan extending all the visas until the pandemic stops?

They're doing it in Europe & the States, but don't know about Japan.

1 ( +1 / -0 )

From what I hear the vaccine does not attack the actual virus but it attacks the protein layer around the virus that makes it infectious. So in theory it should be effective against all strains because the protein layer is the same.

It depends on what part of the spike protein is recognized by the antibodies. The spike protein will always be there, and it will always bind to the Ace2 receptor. But variants can have mutations in places that will prevent some antibodies from binding to it.

That's why the Chinese vaccine (or Rusian one?) might be better; but it's a Chinese vaccine so ...

and yet, I still see an abundance of Japanese Adult males walking around without masks like it's all G.

They are paper accessories that collect and spread. Better to wear a tight fitting surgical mask and a second layer. And eye protection.

Recent research has also being peer reviewed about the 5-10% transfer from the ears via the nose to the lungs.

just was hands, don’t touch your face, social distance and stay home if you a severe risk group. Only 1-2 more years it will finish. Next will be MERS...v.2

@zichi

Are people able to travel overseas again?

Of course people can travel to overseas.

Just follow the quarantine rules of the country.

I met already 2 couples from the USA and 1 single person from Europe who are traveling now in Japan.

Also my company has many branches overseas and my coworkers from overseas are coming and going.

And that wasn’t foreseeable a bit, so that something could have been done beforehand to avoid such a development? lol

0 ( +1 / -1 )

There is also a very new variant in Finland. But it’s useless to warn and tell, because no reaction or countermeasures are enacted, as we could learn from the British, South African and Brazilian ones already. If all those mutations wouldn’t come from overseas, they would probably even import or produce them themselves, just to also to enjoy. lol

Not just in Japan but in every country worldwide the more we think about it this whole thing seems like either this COVID-19 was man made or a fraud which was orchestrated by various world governments to cause dear mongering, control citizens, make citizens live in fear and to take away freedoms and our souls.

People that don't understand things always tend to look for easy and simple explanations for it, even if they are completely wrong. On the other hand experts and professionals around the world that do understand pandemics don't have to rely on fantasies and impossible conspiracies to make sense of thing. Once your "explanation" requires for everybody to ruin their families and friends it should be obvious it no longer is related to reality.

I've stopped caring, the number of cases has magically decreased around the world recently and nobody thinks it's odd that even without vaccines it's just disappearing everywhere at the same time

Its almost as if "everywhere" meant places in the same planet, sharing very important factors that drive the spreading up or down, like changes of seasons, holiday periods, etc.

How did they get here?

business, special visa, high level politicians, private jet, overseas Olympic training and administration staff? USA sailors and pilots?

This is serious!

-1 ( +3 / -4 )

Nobody really cares...except the Doomsayers!

Let us continue with the Vaccine Roll Out Programm and everything will be fine in a few months.

-3 ( +6 / -9 )

@zichi

Ah sorry, I am not sure if the travelers I met, came in before the SOE.

My coworkers from other branches came in before the SOE.

-3 ( +2 / -5 )

Not just in Japan but in every country worldwide the more we think about it this whole thing seems like either this COVID-19 was man made or a fraud which was orchestrated by various world governments to cause dear mongering, control citizens, make citizens live in fear and to take away freedoms and our souls. This COVID-19 also seems like a money making scheme. Various individuals including but not limited to various world governments, pharmaceutical companies and other high stakes players are making a fortune out of this whole “COVID-19 “ and now this Vaccine. Just like various Wars in history someone is making a fortune.

This is extremely sad because many are losing their businesses, jobs and now many if not all cannot see family.

Someone says limit your business hours or shut down your business, do not leave your home, you have to disclose extremely sensitive information like medical records and/or l you have to disclose your travel destinations the answer would be no and these are extremely invasive measures. All someone has to say is “COVID-19” as well as utilizing other fear mongering strategies and then everyone complies. This is extremely interesting how with COVID-19 the numbers are high then when individuals restrict themselves the numbers go down. Now when the situation improves and everyone goes back to living their regular lives suddenly the COVID-19 numbers go back up. Extremely interesting. It is also extremely interesting how this “COVID-19 “ is also in North Korea and Antarctica. Certainly seems like no accident and that this was man made or a fraud.

This is extremely sad because many are losing their businesses, jobs and now many if not all cannot see family.

The only one who can truly save us is God

Here we go and I hope that those vaccines will be effective concerning those strains, too.

From what I hear the vaccine does not attack the actual virus but it attacks the protein layer around the virus that makes it infectious. So in theory it should be effective against all strains because the protein layer is the same.
