Just wait till Japan feels the force of… the kraken.
Coming soon to a city near you.

Wow! These Covid numbers are certainly numbers!!!
Hermitage Nads
Nobody cares.
Omicron’s mortality rate was essentially zero for people under 60 and 0.18% for those aged 60 to 79, putting it very close to the seasonal flu’s mortality rate of 0.01% for people under 60 and 0.19% for those aged 60 to 79.
Downgrade it to the same level as the flu and get rid of masks already.

For people who continue to focus on test results, it will be horrific. But for the rest of us, no big deal...
Lord Dartmouth
The nickname 'Kraken' couldn't possibly have been chosen to scare us completely witless, just as we were beginning to get used to the fact that Covid was no more than a flu, could it? Surely not!
faranglaos
@Hermitage Nada
Hear hear!!
Hermitage Nads
If flu deaths were counted the same way as deaths "with" covid, I'm sure the figures would be higher.

Got a question.
Does anyone actually think that people who are genuinely interested in data such as the number of positive cases, deaths, etc., are also hiding at home underneath the couch and bathing in disinfectant after coming back indoors after even so much as checking the mailbox? Do you actually think that people interested in the numbers aren't going out to clubs and bars and going on with life?
Sorry, that became 2 questions.

I finally got Covid this week for the first time.
unvaccinated and my only symptom was a high fever.
I went from 37° to 39° and back to 37° within 24 hours.
besides a nasty headache which accompanied my fever, absolutely no other symptoms at all.
everything was over within 24 hours
I am so not regretting my choice to not receive any of the Covid shots
faranglaos
@Kenchi
Winning!
Fighto!
Nope. Whether you like masks or not, Japanese will continue to wear them.
Deal with it.
Fighto!
So - from your sample size of ONE - you declare Covid is no big deal.
Well it is for the many thousands currently much, much sicker, and the 400-500 dying of it in Japan daily.
Stephen
This week, Korea will announce that masks are no longer needed indoors. Will Japan want to remain the outlier in the region and the world? There should be a massive campaign to drop them.
Hermitage Nads
Sad thing is that you're right. Just another sign of the sad state of decline of 時代遅れ Japan, where people are unable to think for themselves.
Stephen
@Roy - true, maybe it’s just wishful thinking on my part!
Patrick
Oh yeah, Stephen is right - Korea is getting over Covid before Japan: https://www.koreatimes.co.kr/www/nation/2023/01/119_343849.html
I wonder how that makes "Fighto!" and friends feel!
ian
You forgot to mention that the population is highly vaccinated for covid
ian
That's good.
Anyway, no test?
faranglaos
@Kenchi
Sounds like you take care of yourself. How far below 30 is your BMI?
tamanegi
@Kenchi Glad you're okay Kenchi.
Hermitage Nads
If something as mild as covid is enough to kill them, then it wasn't exactly "before their time".
RKL
I am glad Japan is focusing its efforts on defense of the country as opposed to whatever this is.
Kenchi
@fighto
selfish? that’s funny
to make myself responsible for the entire world is insanity
we are all only responsible for ourselves.
you think you are vaccinated because it’s a social responsibility and you think you’re doing your part for the world? in reality, you’re just full of fear and brainwashed but you just don’t want to admit it. It’s kind of like an extreme type of virtue signaling.
I can’t even take what you say seriously.
Kenchi
@farangalos
yes, I take very good care of myself but I have no idea what my BMI is
ian
If everyone thinks like that less chance to survive for each one and the collective.
Good thing some people have sense
ian
Seems health care system is robust enough already that even with the record numbers they are actually already considering downgrading covid
faranglaos
@Kenchi
30+ is obese. Doubt you're near that number.
Rodney
XBB.1.5 is least worse than seasonal influenza and it will be used for Drug companies to sell their products.
Kenchi
@Ian
don’t be so unnecessarily dramatic.
So far since the pandemic begun, the only result of my philosophy has been that I’ve gotten sick once for 24 hours. My decision has had zero impact on anyone else.
it worked out for me.
I say let everyone make decisions based on what they think is best for themselves.
You wanna inject yourself, go for it. You don’t want to inject yourself, then don’t.
Kenchi
@Faranglaos
according to the formula I found online I guess I would be 23.8
Kaowaiinekochanknaw
Let's hope that the daily death figures in Japan are not due to over counting, as in the US, as suggested by Dr Leana Wen and others
https://www.washingtonpost.com/opinions/2023/01/13/covid-pandemic-deaths-hospitalizations-overcounting/

@tamanegi
thank you my friend!

Peer pressure us a horrible thing.

Waiting for Mr. Kishida to announce that masks no long necessary inside. Any day now. Mr. Kishida, hurry up already.
I actually jumped the gun and took the initiative and removed mine months ago.
The sweet taste of fresh air on my lips and the wind blowing softy against my maskless face has been wondeful. No going back.
ian
Good for you, there are a lot here who don't want to wear masks also but can't remove it at work

Brilliant. The fresh face initiative.
Needs a popular model to promote.

Well done. Those beastly masks are useless, unhygienic and cause a massive eco problem worldwide.
I also wish Mr Kishida would follow the science and tell people to stop wearing the masks. The damage it does to the children is heartbreaking.
tora

I am speaking honestly when I say I don't miss those at all. Never again.
And also haven't got Covid (unless had it and didn't know) since removing the things. Nothing changed, apart from being able to freely breath again.

Yes, hopefully all workplaces will come to their senses soon and it will just be an uninformed choice to continue to wear for some. I feel for those forced to wear them.
tora
Below is my correct post (sorry)
I too had reservations, but I just did it, and guess what happened? Nothing. They can't fire you. Seriously. Shops/trains the lot. A few of my colleagues copied me and have gone completely maskless. Nobody said anything. It's just bloody refreshing to be breathing normally again.

Indeed!
I was in a Subway today, and the staff asked me if I had a mask. I just said no, and she said OK and said no more about it before serving me cheerfully. I guess she had to ask.
Algernon LaCroix
He doesn't bother wearing one when he's overseas, so why wear one at home?
Tatemae, pure and simple.
