Japan on Monday reported 13,038 new coronavirus cases, down 9,758 from Sunday. Tokyo reported 1,372 new cases, down 870 from Sunday.
The number of infected people hospitalized with severe symptoms in Tokyo is eight, down one from Sunday, health officials said. The nationwide number is 134, down three from Sunday.
The number of coronavirus-related deaths reported nationwide was 50.

I went out to a few bars on Saturday night - not a mask in sight, it was fantastic. The imminent return of foreign tourists, many of whom will not bother wearing masks, should also encourage the Japanese to further return to normalcy.
