There’s always someone asking why so many people with coronavirus are vaccinated, usually accompanied by a sarcastic comment or two.

Say you have ten friends, and eight of them are vaccinated, if two of those friends then gets the virus, you have a 25% rate of infection amongst the vaccinated, and zero amongst the unvaccinated. Looks like the vaccines might even be causing the virus doesn’t it! Obviously, no. You simply have a larger population size in one group.

It should be common knowledge now that vaccines don’t stop transmission, but help prevent more serious symptoms and even long covid to some extent.

This really shouldn’t be difficult.

The government never scaled for this virus and now they are just ignoring it…

To think there are kids aged 3-5 now who have known no different than a faceless society. Not sure how anyone can still try and justify any of that.

I have thought about this often.I have thought about this often.

My parents spent their early years of their lives regularly taking cover from German bombs and living off miserly rations.

Kids are far tougher than you think. I'd be more worried about adults, they are the ones that suffer most from mental problems.

296 dead-how many were vaccinated as "recommended" by government?why this information is always missing?

Zero. Source: https://www.mhlw.go.jp/stf/seisakunitsuite/bunya/0000164708_00001.html

Sorry, it didn't suit your "belief" that "science is fake".

I am not saying that SoEs that limit peoples movements will solve the problem,

Agreed. Japanese people won't meaeninfully observe SoEs any longer. Each one has been increasingly ignored.

but they can eliminate smaller bureaucratic problems, like having to go see a doctor versus the doctor just mailing you your medication.

Fair point. If the human face-to-face system struggles to cope, a bureaucratic system where patients can be diagnosed, treated and monitored remotely may be more efficient and cost effective.

The problem is that people are used to getting a sniffle / ache and going to their local clinic, as it's so cheap since they've spent decades paying huge national health contributions. I've been here for 20 years and paid millions without needing a doctor / bed, so when I eventually need one they better bloody well have one!

I teach 400 students weekly in my mask and wraparound glasses -- I haven't caught it yet.

400 is an excessive number of students. 80 per day?

It's in no way excessive. That is a pretty average number of close contacts for someone with am average public school schedule. Just sayin'

Sorry @clippetyclop

No apology needed

What I am pointing out is the Japanese government seems to have just given up.

In what way? What more can they do? SoEs? Close schools? More vaccines?

I should be more specific the Japanese people are doing just about everything they possibly can.

I'd probably agree on this.

Again, the aged suffer the most from this, and they are the least represented in the online community, so we get a skewed sense of their complacency owing to the absence of their digital voices.

Perhaps the wisest comment on the subject in a while.

This really shouldn’t be difficult.

Oh, but it is for many. 76% of people don’t understand mathematics, and the other 2/3rds don’t care.

Agreed with @design-monkey. The daily number of infections is an important parameter for many following calculations that are based on it. Without it we haven’t anymore the base data for comparisons, accumulations and also no denominator for calculating relationships or percentages etc. We get in serious trouble if it is not determined on a daily basis anymore.

Changing the classification of Covid for medical reporting purposes does nothing to lower Japan's record W.H.O. high infection rates and deaths. Why count only 65 and over and severe cases and ignore data from everyone else? Who's bright idea was this?

2 ( +4 / -2 )

Why count only 65 and over and severe cases and ignore data from everyone else?

Because 98% of deaths are people over 65 years old.

Because 96% of people under 65 recover within a few days at home if under 65

99.7% if under 50 7and 99.995 % if under 50 according to the latest data

Sorry, I didn't save the yahoo link

I get the feeling that Japan has just given up, and stuck its head in the sand.

How does a nation 'give up'? What do you think Japan should be doing that it isn't doing?

It seems most people who die from COVID are dying at home. Why is this happening?

-1 ( +7 / -8 )

Masks continuing to work then.

While Singapore drops the indoor mask mandate. Seems Japan is even slower to get the memo that they aren't doing anything but just causing pollution and seriously impacting effective learning for the young.

Surely after weeks and weeks of this it's nigh time to move on. Drop the masks. Let kids learn properly and see faces.

Close to 3 years now. The vaccines were rolled out. Those who got them did. Many many times. The virus mutated and is as mild as it has ever been. If folk are dying of covid now (likely with as opposed to of) then they were dying. Which happens. People die. We all will.

Yet for some reason we still get these daily reports that suggest the end is nigh. While widespread masking confirms that. To think there are kids aged 3-5 now who have known no different than a faceless society. Not sure how anyone can still try and justify any of that.

There are currently nearly two million active cases in Japan. We've had a high caseload near to this level for a few weeks. Even if covid had zero health effects many people would have died with covid (4,000 die every day.)

Death with covid is not death from covid.

-3 ( +1 / -4 )

As usual the data is extremely lacking!

show ages, commorbities, use the same metrics for influenza as they do for Covid and the death rates would be similar no doubt!

Roughly 5000 people die everyday in Japan this is a sad but inescapable fact of life.

The mental health of children and adults is also a huge under reported statistic. Suicides are up as a result of all the unnecessary over reaches. people have lost livelihoods and businesses.

All along the only people requiring vaccination with these EUA vaccines were the elderly and those with comorbidities which predispose them to severe Covid. If the vaccines were as good as some claim on here then what would the problem have been?? Once it was learned they do nothing to stop transmission this mass vaccination diatribe should have ceased immediately!

-4 ( +2 / -6 )

The Vaccinations are simply for those who want vaccinations - they won't necessarily help you. Statistically speaking.. there's lies, damn lies, and ... Statistics... Having worked with Publicly released Statistics, I know that it is in general, easy (somewhat) to skew the results to suit the argument/cause that you are trying to promote.

I'm not an anti-vaxxer, (do what you want so long as it doesn't bother me), but I do have a thing against the way that the data is being presented to us, it's being done so in such a way to feed into the hands of those with a cause - either side of the fence, and the reason why ... since the specifics of population sampling and control data, would probably bore most...

Time to stop counting, and then everything will be okay.
