Japan on Friday reported 53,911 new coronavirus cases, down 5,974 from Thursday. Tokyo reported 4,297 new cases, down 764 from Thursday.
The number of infected people hospitalized with severe symptoms in Tokyo was 31, down three from Thursday, health officials said. The nationwide figure was 557, down 28 from Thursday.
The number of coronavirus-related deaths reported nationwide was 343.

Good to see the infection numbers significantly decreasing but the deaths are still excruciatingly high. RIP to those deceased and condolences to their families.
