Japan on Saturday reported 79,486 new coronavirus cases, up 5,393 from Friday. Tokyo reported 8,021 new cases, up 122 from Friday.
The number of infected people hospitalized with severe symptoms in Tokyo is 20, unchanged from Friday, health officials said. The nationwide number is 224, up 14 from Friday.
The number of coronavirus-related deaths reported nationwide was 95.

All in all, considering the fatality rate, Japan is doing very well.

Would be good if they could give some information on variants. If there is a new wave coming, what is causing it? Would be good to know, especially if the new variants are milder. Sounds like they might be preparing to ask people again to refrain from large indoor gatherings. Seems a bit pointless since many people take crowded trains etc.
