Japan on Tuesday reported 8,683 new coronavirus cases, up 5,913 from Monday. Tokyo reported 877 new cases, up 607 from Monday.
The number of infected people hospitalized with severe symptoms nationwide was 79, up four from Monday, health officials said.
The number of coronavirus-related deaths reported nationwide was 29.
