Never ending story.

Begining to sound like a broken record.

I can barely eat a decent meal let alone fruits, veggies and meat

Driving my family to an amusement park has become an elusive dream.

Corona is the least of my concern doesn't mean I don't take precaution.

My biggest concern is the rising cost of necessities and income that is in free fall

as it is going to kill me before corona

Japan will be in masks for decades over this.

20 ( +25 / -5 )

We're about to see the new all time peak! thankfully its much milder than earlier variants such as the original novel strain or its delta offshoot... this highly contagious omicron subvariant may help this pandemic pass faster by ripping off the proverbial bandaid. Hopefully the healthcare system is robust and prepared enough that there won't be any avoidable deaths (those who will get seriously ill when inevitably infected, but could die without effective intensive care).

10 ( +15 / -5 )

in Japan almost everyone wears a mask and today’s new cases are 94,493 (0.075% of the population). In the USA almost nobody wears a mask. And yesterdays new cases were 95,342 (0.029% of the population. I’m becoming increasingly convinced that mask are not working for various reasons.(https://www.worldometers.info/coronavirus/)

Japan, in spite of maintaining the world’s most draconian border controls outside of China, is logging nearly the most covid cases of any country in the world. A sane country would accept the failure of these controls and normalize entry policies.

But not Kishida’s Japan.

Stay masked! Can't rely on the vax.

No one should rely on the vaccination, and anyone who does is an idiot living with their head in the sand.

A vaccination for COVID does not make one immune, just like the flu vaccination, it lessens the symptoms if one happens to catch it!

Why the fixation on masks and the other measures that didn't work before? Increased infections with minimal serious cases is a bit of a nothing really.

5 ( +14 / -9 )

These figures do not have much meaning because there are only the tip of the iceberg. I know 3 persons that caught it last week. So there is no way that 16,878 is even close from reality for a Tokyo population of 14 mio. More likely to have 10 time more at least.

This is not surprising because the vacine offers very little against protection as White House chief medical adviser Dr. Anthony Fauci conceded yesterday “ COVID-19 vaccines do not protect overly well against infection”

Having said that it seems to still offer a protection against severe form.

Japan the most masked country in the world…I mean looks like those masks, social distancing and Perspex barriers in the restaurants are working really well…..NOT!!!

4 ( +17 / -13 )

Plus masks put the mouth biome out of whack which then begins to affect digestion and causes throat infections.

Any reference for this, or it is just imaginary facts pulled out from thin air? how come the people that have always used maks for long hours are not effected this way?

But unfortunately there are too many idiots around who are telling us nonstop how effective the vaccine is and that the vaccine is the silver bullet.

The only people that I have seen saying this are those that endlessly repeat this was said by the experts and that they also said variants would not change this. But when you ask for a source to prove this was ever said by the experts they end up with excuses like "I saw it on TV some day".

Making up "facts" to criticize when the actual arguments are impossible to defeat is called a "strawman" and it is very commonly used by people that have been demonstrated mistaken, so they can disprove something, even if the only person that ever said it are themselves.

Why the fixation on masks and the other measures that didn't work before?

Mostly because they did work, and reduce spreading. Uncontrollable spreading is not something that can be safely recommended, even when the risk from the infection has been lowered by vaccines and treatments. Doing both (control of infection and control of complications) is the best way to reduce the burden of the health services.

The virus continues to mutate faster than vaccines.

2 ( +9 / -7 )

Stay masked! Can't rely on the vax.

Unfortunately you cannot rely on the masks at all either.

particularly even more so as so many people are wearing ineffectual cloth and othermasks, wearing their masks with their nose not covered and of course not wearing them at all in the crowded restaurants, coffee shops etc.

Plus masks put the mouth biome out of whack which then begins to affect digestion and causes throat infections.

Hope you kept the receipt for this take. It's faulty.

2 ( +7 / -5 )

Like I said before it just goes to show the closed borders did absolutely nothing in preventing the spread of covid but it did bankrupt a lot of small businesses dependent on the tourist trade ....

2 ( +4 / -2 )

New record down here, over 3,500 and health officials are warning that there could be 20,000 to 30,000 new cases in Okinawa this week alone.

1 ( +10 / -9 )

I’m becoming increasingly convinced that mask are not working for various reasons.

It's hard to make effective comparisons between different countries like that because there are so many other variables that come into play. But yeah, I'd agree that the masks are not so effective with these latest variants - over in S. Korea they wear masks as religiously as they do here - their measures seemed to be effective until Omicron hit and then within the space of two months 1/3rd of the entire population tested positive - no doubt they missed quite a lot of cases too (positivity rate in testing went as high as 65%).

I'm not that bothered about masks really, I'll just be glad when they get rid of the border restrictions.

Nonsense. Masks have been very effective in containing the Flu, regular colds, and even Corona. Now, the number of Corona cases has been rising. But from my understanding, these largely occur when someone is in close contact with another, with neither wearing masks. So has been the situation with every one of my students.

Steven McCarthy,

"We had a total 94,466 new cases reported nationwide yesterday, and newly-infected patients have increased by 2.14-fold compared to the last week, and we are seeing a rapid expansion," chief cabinet secretary Hirokazu Matsuno told a news conference.

But he said hospital bed usage remained low, as did the number of serious cases and deaths.

Yet, you tell us the hospitals are full and the medical system is near collapse. You continue to push a false narrative.

But unfortunately there are too many idiots around who are pushing nonstop for the vaccine, even the reality shows us now that the vaccine is just an unimportant drop in the game.

I don't get why people have such a hard time understanding, there's no single solution.

We have 4 tools:

Vaccines - keep them up to date

Masks - Wear them tight, not loose, and put your nose in

Airflow, always make sure you have airflow, else avoid the place

Decisions on whether to partake in unnecessary high risk events.

Use these tools in combinations to lower your risk. Don't rely on a single one. Don't say any of them are useless because they aren't 100% effective. This is exactly why we're still in a pandemic.

Masks - Wear them tight, not loose, and put your nose in

This is a really good point.

The amount of people on the trains, and students I teach, with their nose over the mask...

Idiotic.

You might aswell not even bother wearing one

The latest version can manifest itself without a Temperature, and can also not be picked up by the usual PCR tests, symptoms include Prolonged sore throat, and/or prolonged Coughing - so watch out for those around you complaining of such - or simply coughing.

It’s time to open everything up this ain’t going away. Learn to live with it and stop worrying! The economy needs to resume! Deal with it already!!

0 ( +1 / -1 )

OMG 13 people in hospital with severe symptoms in Tokyo!!! Quick close the borders, quarantine all the gaijin and join the moonies!!! It’s the end of the world…NOT!

open up, move on, remove the bung!

-2 ( +17 / -19 )

Some complain that the masks and vaccines are not effective. Well, only one remark, of course they were effective only at the beginning, but now lose effectiveness because nothing has been done for three years, which logically implies, that we are more and more exponentially exposed to the viruses around at amounts those masks and repeated vaccinations can’t block anymore.

-2 ( +0 / -2 )

Oh, so THATS why the number was 2 hours later then usual….

wow, this is bad…

-3 ( +12 / -15 )

Can't rely on the vax.

Very true!

looks more like a phone number not daily tally.

Absolutely!

Proudly in the idiotic camp.

> Oxygen is healthy, I want as much of it as possible.

> Plus masks put the mouth biome out of whack which then begins to affect digestion and causes throat infections.

Oh well done

@Sanjinosebleed : Japan is basically open. You sound like you have a compelling reason to come here. Go and get a business visa and stop whinging.

-4 ( +8 / -12 )

Tokyo alone jumped over 5,000 in one day? (From about 11,000 to 16,000?) That is actually crazy! Then again, I've seen a lot more people on crowded morning trains (and other crowded indoor areas) entirely forgoing their masks. I understand not wearing a mask outside in the summer heat, but when you're in a crowded, indoor space...Disappointing to see these numbers, honestly.

-5 ( +6 / -11 )

We know where these numbers are going ….. only higher …

Infections 9,918,040

Change from previous day +94,493

Hospitalizations 384,203

Change from previous day +32,585

We also know that the numbers of people with “severe symptoms” also lag a few days…. With nearly 400k currently hospitalized rather it be in an actual hospital or a hotel…. These numbers are not sustainable and will lead directly to unnecessary deaths as the healthcare system which includes healthcare professionals is once again…. On the brink of collapse. The only things positive at this point is the trajectory of new cases and patients. Multiple prefectures reporting record numbers…. Yet there are those still whining about restrictions we’ve never had. Y’all can complain about the borders , when the fact is that the borders are mostly open ! If you have friends / family that want to come here, follow the rules! Have them apply for a visa…. Write an invitation for them…. The borders will go back to pre-Covid rules once we are post-Covid. In order to get there , residents of Japan need to do their own individual parts! Get vaccinated and/or boosted asap! Even minimal protection is better than zero …. And NO! Getting infected does not protect you better than the vaccines! FACT CHECKED!!! Stop making up excuses! Mask up when necessary!!! Long before Covid 19 ever came along , Japanese people were wearing masks! Follow the 3 C’s….. avoid all closed spaces …. Avoid crowded places !!!! Avoid close contact…. Keep your space … Keep safe and once and for all…. Care about others even if you choose to remain careless with your own health!

That is the point.

Don't rely on a single one.

But unfortunately there are too many idiots around who are telling us nonstop how effective the vaccine is and that the vaccine is the silver bullet.

And as long as such people are spreading day in day out their BS, and people believe them by thinking the vaccine is the silver bullet, the cases will always increase.

Wear masks, social distance, disinfect often and be fully vaccinated. Anyone saying otherwise is a danger to themselves and others.

I will put my faith in science and it's advice, over blind luck of the draw that I might live or die getting covid.

I get my second booster this Friday. Shot number four. It is not a guarantee of life, but it helps tip the odds more greatly to my favor. I could still die from covid, or get long covid. But I will take every advantage I can get when it comes to virus's or diseases that could kill me. Why would I not?

-6 ( +10 / -16 )

No one should rely on the vaccination, and anyone who does is an idiot living with their head in the sand.

I 100% agree!

But unfortunately there are too many idiots around who are pushing nonstop for the vaccine, even the reality shows us now that the vaccine is just an unimportant drop in the game.

Okinawa (3,518)-record high!

Interesting how many infections develop there, as there is no subway system, and the "train" is very limited in use.

Must be from the eating and drinking get togethers.

-8 ( +5 / -13 )

As I predicted, we will soon see 100,000+

Stay masked! Can't rely on the vax.
