Octover comes before Movember

The others haven't achieved that, no matter what the "experts" said, so why would this one?
Readyfortakeoff
Great news for the Japanese people.

To translate,
It is gonna be ineffective against BA5,
but vaccinating the one at risks is still planned
Rodney
They do know you need a ten year clinical (extensive) trial, peer reviewed, or is time travel now possible?
JapanJim
Time to buy more stock in Pfizer and Moderna. Don't miss the chance to make some money with this new cycle of vaccines.
fallaffel
I don't think so. You had better inform them of the Rodney rules for testing vaccine safety and efficacy so that they don't make a mistake.
Nihon Tora
If we just give it to the high risk people instead of trying to give it to as many people as possible multiple times every six months, maybe the virus won’t develop escape mutants quite so fast?
fallaffel
Or maybe not. To say this, you would need to show scientific evidence. Otherwise you are just putting lives at risk for no reason.
Rodney
I agree with @nihon Tora. I’m unvaccinated, unmasked and had Covid-19 three weeks ago. Lasted four days and the winter common cold is much worse. But very old and sick people don’t have strong immune systems, so if giving them an experimental vaccine or ten, if it helps, I’m ok with that.

Cant wait for the new formula! Maybe itll replace my rogaine and help my hair grow back as a side effect.

People talk about only giving the vaccine to those high risk that may be a good idea though I want to point out that many otherwise healthy individuals go on to develop long covid after getting covid. The only way to prevent long Covid 100% is by not catching Covid.
thelonius
Omicron will be in the rearview mirror by then. And hopefully, the pandemic will be too.

]exactly
masking and social distancing, if you do catch covid even while vaccinated you chances are drastically reduced in getting long covid, these are medical facts. now if you dont want to get vaxxed fine, youll also be taking the higher risk approach to gaining natural immunity.
Have you seen the latest studies, natural immunity also fades with time, about 1 year,
funny that did you notice the flu vaccine is a yearly shot.
natura immunity is only really effective to the strain of covid youve caught, not the others, so basically youve got to catch all the strains to get multiple resistance and all the risks of long covid as a result.
As the virologists you studied the data, " covid is now everwhere, the risk of developing more strains either more deadly or less . The longer this pandemic continues the greater the risk of new strains.
So you can either catch the all the new strains to develop a resistance to those strains, or take a vaccine suited to those new strains

I’m unvaccinated, unmasked and had Covid-19 three weeks ago. Lasted four days and the winter common cold is much worse.
did you also know that recent studies have shown natural immunity is only effective to the strain youve caught, offers very little protection against any newer strains. So you chances of catching another variant of covid is about the same as the one you just caught.
So being unmasked un vaxxed is totally your decision, but it also comes with those added risks of long covid,
every strain acts differently to every individual, dont assume your next infection with have similar effects to your last
fallaffel
It's so great that you are ok with letting someone take a vaccine that they are recommended to take. I don't get the antivaxxers that want to prevent others from putting something in their bodies.
thepersoniamnow
Not to be difficult, but isn’t that just a bit before BA.6 comes round?

I'll take it. If it keeps me out of hospital. First three did me no harm and it was the only the second shot that gave me any side effects of note. @Bronco opening up with the old 'will it stop transmission', then I think it's safe to say he's asking rhetorical questions. And as for @Rodney going on about having it three weeks ago. Well good for him it wasn't as bad as a cold. It's not like that for everyone.
Hopefully they'll dish it out the same time as the flu shot. Get it all over at once.

Natural immunity last at least one year. That is the longest they looked at. Anyway, that is immunity against infection, not just symptoms, and one year is still much longer than the 2 months you get from the vax.
kurisupisu
Won’t be needing it nor will I be rolling up my sleeve for it....
Sanjinosebleed
Absolute waste of time! everyone will have natural immunity by then to omicron because the current vaccines are useless and they will have already had the runny nose with a headache!
The Avenger
Too bad about the newest variants outpacing vaccines.

Just got confirmation I'm positive, after being triple jabbed, worn masks, used good hygiene. I've had flu that was worse than this. Get vaccinated sure, but stop carrying on like it's the end of the world. End the garbage at the airport now!

no it isnt you can still get infected again even if youve caught covid, against 1 type of variant, what happens when you catch anther varient.
vaccines reduce your chances of serious symptoms and long covid FACT. covid is not the flu far more contagious and fatal . the flu is a yearly shot for this exact reason, the effects wear off. so you can either develop resistance by becoming infected or by taking a vaccine, catching the flu or covid when youre young healthy has very small chances of developing into something serious, the elderly dont have this advantage so they get vaccinated instead
now you can downvote me until the cows come home, these are the facts backed by virologists around the world, facts and covid doent care about your feelings. bring on all those salty downvotes LOL

nobody is carrying on, but Japan wont open until the pandemic is under control, record infections like we have now isnt under control
wtfjapan
I have not had a single vaccine, nor has my family. I do not intend to ever accept vaccination.
nobody is forcing you, show me in Japan that vaccinations are mandatory, Ill wait
Raw Beer
Actually he is right. Nobody is claiming natural immunity is 100% effective. But it does provide protection against infection, for at least a year; while vaccines offer protection for a few months against hospitalization but not infection.
And vaccines offer little protection against long Covid:

These are the FACTS, the real ones...
Really? Based off a website that actively discourages vaccination? Yes, of course they are. Laughable codswallop (the whole website).
Raw Beer
What?!!! Nature is one of the most prestigious science journals. That is where Watson and Crick publish their structure of DNA back in 1953...

The clown show continues. This is what the first four doses were supposed to do. Time to put an end to the worst science experiment of all time.

@Raw Beer: Until 2015 it was indeed a publication of excellent repute. However, since the merger with Springer Nature there have been numerous controversies involving articles that have been published. Typical of you to have to go back so long in history to make a comparison. You souldn’t know a ‘FACT’ if it stared you in the face.

Yet another vaccine I won't be taking.
virusrex
That is still a baseless claim, no evidence that infection by omicron gives one year of protection, specially against other variants. And the argument is that infection only comes with the full risks, which obviously makes it a self-defeating proposition when the purpose is to avoid those risks.
Since people that are not infected, and not developed any symptoms are better protected that still means a better protection than not vaccinating, against this the only other option is once again get infected and get the full risks of developing long covid. This is obviously much worse.
JTC
These U.S. Pharma's must surely be raking in the money ever time a new variant comes out, since that calls for a new Vaccine.... do Politicians have to declare overseas investments (personal or otherwise) ?
virusrex
How does this work in your mind? companies got lots of money with the beta, gamma, delta and omicron strains even when no new vaccine has been developed?
The pandemic have huge economic consequences by itself, there is no need to think anybody has some hidden interest on a vaccine company (much less all of them, from every country of the world) when the benefits of vaccination are so obvious as they have been for covid.
