So, every one of the frequent asymptomatic carriers will be free to spread the contagion? What are the people going to do after they find someone with symptoms? go back in time and stop this person from having contact with lots of other tourists, spectators, etc. during the 2-3 days he could be spreading the disease before showing symptoms?
Oxycodin
Seems like the tourist are more important than us local who live and pay Japanese taxes. They get a PCR test upon arrival and I living in Japan don’t even know how to beg for a PCR test.

Consultation? How about treatment, that's the most important not only language but immedeate treatment if they got infected.
gogogo
and returning Japanese from overseas are need to do the same?
kurisupisu
With no vaccine and the inability to control the spread of the disease which is on the rise, why should anyone make as Japan a destination?
kurisupisu
Saving face in Japan is the priority.....of course!
dagon
Shouldn't testing be part of the equation?
"If a person is suspected to be infected with the virus, the center will provide consultations," seems a very vague way to go about things.

It amazes me who thinks of these brilliant ideas.
Only in Japan. haha

Note to self.
I'm here because Japan is a safe country.
I'm here because Japan is a safe country.

And what will the authorities do if someone breaks their quarantine? Other countries have some pretty strict laws or regulations in place, but I have yet to see anything similar talked about or even proposed here.

tip to anyone of us PR types who are now OUTSIDE Japan.
When you go for your 72hr prior test, IF you test +ve..........DO NOT SEND this info to any Japanese govt authority, repeat DO NOT!!
Simply STAY where you are & wait it out, try again, only if you get the -VE then proceed to travel. I would bet if the J-govt has a +ve next to your name no matter when that was it WILL affect your ability to get HOME to Japan.
I have no proof, but I think many here will understand my ""logic"" as its based on what is ""common sense"" in Japan....what a mess

Hilarious. There are 126 million people here, the virus is evidently at large within the local population. There is literally no point in tracking a small number of overseas visitors if you are doing nothing to monitor the local populace.

But if they find someone positive they can not treat them as no beds are available.
it is logical some of these tourists will need hospital attention but with a medical system “ overburdened “ already , bringing in tourists seems a major contradiction.
it is only an excuse again towards the Olympics. If there were any ethical or moral standards left at IOC they would already have cancelled these games.

and must go through hassle and pay before come to Japan too.

You, my friend, are assuming that there is a method to the madness here. There isn't.

Will these tourists have a quarantine or not ?
If not, it is a better treatment than most of PRs.
So, if the staying period is between , a short business trip, and, 3 months or more, no chance, you will be denied. Is my understanding correct ?

Before March I hope the hospitals who need the SDF nurses have both space, personnel, and expertise in dealing with coronavirus patients.
If a tourist is 'suspected' of having coronavirus, will they be treated more quickly than, say, a certain pharmacy professor who was turned away by a hospital and the gov't agency in charge of sending people for testing and then died?

they are Japanese...I think not need add it more here.
Luddite
Rather than spend money on this nonsense, why not spend it on distributing vaccines?
Goodlucktoyou
So no 2 week quarantine? Current research reports 2-12 days.
even experienced a “small tour group”? They will be crowded together in hotel buffets and then tour buses, where on mass they will wander around some of the most crowded places in Japan. I went to Arashiyama in Kyoto a couple of weeks ago, and at least 100 people bumped into me.
my biggest question is...WHO IS GOING TO PAY FOR THESE FOREIGNERS?
William77
So they set up this health monitoring centre for tourists but leave the foreign residents that pays taxes in a limbo.
Perfect move to keep the tatemae for the world and the honne for the foreign community within their border.

I wouldn't want to go to a country which has no vaccination at all.
natsu823
It would be beneficial for Japan if the government also mentions COVID in Japan affects those 65 and older. Tourists will flock to Japan. haha
MyJT2014
Japan it is time to get serious about this virus and start to look after the locals and to make sure the virus is totally eradicated & vaccine is available around the world before letting in tourists in. Tourist or not let have a referendum and let the Japanese people decide for themselves.
A - Tourists money
B - Japanese life

What else are you dreaming of at nights? Nothing is held in summer. lol

Anyone entering must quarantine at least 5 days upon arrival even if they tested negative from departure. What if that person aquired COVID on board. Many things can happen after 12 hour flights.
divinda
As a PR like you, I agree its unfair, but thats the perk of citizenship.
Umm, if positive, you should't fly. Neither should a JC. Actually, if an airline knew you (or a JC) was positive, you'd be denied boarding, maybe even removed from the airport in that country by hazmat suited staff and put into quarantine. In many countries, going around in public while being knowingly positive could get you fined or even jailed no matter what your citizenship or residence is.
Thats why they have "Travel Insurance". If a JC tested positive abroad, they'd have the same situation as you.
