Japan to start multilingual coronavirus helpline

Finallly Japan starting to acknowledge there are foreigners that need language help during pandemic, it's only take 11 months from first outbreak in January this year.

The government expects many overseas travelers to attend the Tokyo Games, which was postponed for a year due to the coronavirus pandemic

Well, they will be in for a shock when people don’t turn up

For a helpline supposedly launched for foreign Olympic visitors (heaven forbid suggesting its being done for foreign residents), why was French not included?

Article 23 of the Olympic Charter states the official languages of the Olympics are French, English, and the language of the host country.

Sure. This is a great idea! ; - ( and how fast acting as well. My bet is that this will be a success because every time I call for English assistance in Japan, the quality is always top quality and world class. ; - (

Thank you Japan! You never cease to amaze me!

And what about everyone already here and dealing with the lack of multi-lingual information? Oh right, no tourists, so no "English only" need! (utter sarcasm!)

All hail the olympics, foreigners resident in Japan courtesy of the olympic finally

get a helpline in 7 foreign languages excluding french.

pasque, le français n'est pas une langue internationale comme le vietnamien

Do Vietnamese get up an hour late? Or is there only one Vietnamese person employed and they were doing something before 10am?

What will the helpline tell them? You can't get a test? You have to have Japanese health insurance? Most Japanese hospital staff only speak Japanese? Only some hospitals or clinics except suspected covid19 patients? The virus stops infecting people after 10pm?

That only means in reverse that the ordinary system is completely insufficient, otherwise such a multilingual helpline wouldn’t be necessary at all.

And what of the English proficiency of the operators? It’s not enough to have these useless helplines, they actually need people who can communicate in the languages.

And what of the English proficiency of the operators?

Probably hiring those with Eiken 2 as the requirement!

Is it so that tourist who aren't allowed to travel can call from abroad?

Wow, slow down Japan! Don't hurt yourself with all that speed, what was that like 11 months too late? lol This is the funniest thing I've read in a while.

"WOW, did the coronavirus already start? Guess I'm late to the party. TEE HEE............"

If Japan were a person, they would be the last to arrive at the party, and only after most of the damage had been done.
