Some unanswered questions here.

This is the (rich) son of the Shigeta mobile phone shop business. Takes a minimum $3M a year dividend. So financially this situation is fine. But why 13 children? And he says he is from a large family but as far as I could research there were only 2 other siblings? And for a rich son worth so much in a country like Japan, he could look like the Elephant Man and have a very long line of beauties queuing up to give him children? Why the Thailand route?

Doesn't quite add up.

Hopefully the kidz won’t be discriminated against as hafu’s constantly in their school life.

I have my hands absolutely full with 3 kids. Can't imagine 13 all at once. youll be surprised how convenient 3~4 nannys can be, us plebs cant afford them

6 ( +7 / -1 )

humble take is correct.

theperson, what doesn't add up is why a very rich and young Japanese man needs to surrogate 13 children in Thailand. If this was all about some kind of Madonna/ Angelina act of goodness using your millions, why couldn't he have adopted 13 children instead and given orphans a better life?

It doesn't sound right at all and the number is way excessive. He is too young and doesn't appear to have a history of being married and trying for children etc.

The authorities are not asking the right questions. A lot of money doesn't answer why a young man needs 13 surrogate children.

He should have adopted 13 kids.

Come on strangers, think outside the box for a minute. This guy is in his late twenties. Doesn't appear to be married. If his juice is jumping, he could afford to father 6 or 7 kids with different mothers, even Thai mothers if that is his preference. But why 13 and why all surrogates?

If me or my wife won the lottery we may want 6 or 7 kids but that is to do with a love for our marriage. Why does this rich kid want 13 surrogate children on his own?

5 ( +5 / -0 )

Maybe he's gay and isn't into women.

Bing bong. I'm glad you said it first. So why should other gay couples have to go through such a thorough process to surrogate when he is not even being upfront about the reason? If the open secret was that he is gay, then ok. But again, he has no partner to call this a family and why so many children for someone in his twenties?

For me the potential risk about this guy is too great. Enough money to pay off anything. If I had his money I would like to adopt and give an orphan a better life, but the big difference is that I have a family partner and I am not 24 years old.

5 ( +5 / -0 )

oyatoi - spot on. Mainstream media won't touch it because of who his father is.

@thepersoniamnow

Let’s just settle on the fact that you have no idea of what’s going on with the surrogates in Thai or any other places in the world. Human trafficking is no joke.

I hope you sir has the last laugh.

The guy was 24 when authorities found 9 children between 2 weeks and 2 years old in an apartment in Bangkok. He says he comes from a big family but appears to have only 2 other siblings. He says he needs the children to help the family business in the future, but with that family's money why would they have issues finding the right staff? I predict that we may not hear the last of this story.

4 ( +4 / -0 )

As serendipitous says. But even then, there is no way any authorities would let a 28 year old adopt 13 children. He would have to prove his home situation, maturity, and partnership status.

3 ( +3 / -0 )

TigersTokyoDome - Agreed 100%. It's just inconceivable to think he did all that with only paternal desires in mind. I just hope, for the sake of the kids, that the authorities keep a close watch until they're old enough to take care of themselves.

this just goes to show that money doesn't equal brains for sure.

2 ( +7 / -5 )

Wow... I'm pretty sure he'll have a lot of fun when they grow up. Just hope that they won't be money hungry.

Except for the scandal rags, this story is all but invisible in Japan. Mainstream media won’t touch it with a barge pole and most people have never heard of it. There is far more to this story than meets the eye but Japan being what it is, nobody should expect anytime soon to see any serious investigative journalism into his background, where his money comes from, and what the authorities feel about his in-your-face subversion of Japan’s exclusionary racial hygiene mindset which ensures that only twenty asylum claims a year are approved.

This is absurd and it makes me sick to my stomach to know children were made in such dubious conditions for the sole motive to fancy a “father’s” ego and love for exuberance. This right here is just a modern name for child trafficking. The court system only considered his assets but not his ability to wholly assume his duties as a father. Sick world!

Hopefully the kidz won’t be discriminated against as hafu’s constantly in their school life.

My kids haven't really had to deal with any of that as of yet. I don't know if the times are changing, or if they have just been lucky, but there haven't been any particular incidents.

If this was all about some kind of Madonna/ Angelina act of goodness using your millions, why couldn't he have adopted 13 children instead and given orphans a better life?

Maybe because he is rich and can afford to pay a surrogate to have a baby with his DNA.

It doesn't sound right at all and the number is way excessive.

What exactly is wrong with it, and if he has the time and money to take care of them properly, why is the number excessive?

The authorities are not asking the right questions. A lot of money doesn't answer why a young man needs 13 surrogate children.

Why does anyone need even one child? I don't think anyone has claimed he 'needed' these children. He simply wanted them, and went about getting them. There is no requirement of necessity for having children.

Wikipedia has a page listing people with the most children throughout history. My first thought was the King of Saudi Arabia with 45 kids through 22 wives, but he barely even makes the list.

Do we know for sure that the kids are hafu? He could have bought Japanese donor eggs and had them implanted in the Thai surrogates.

@thepersoniamnow

I beg to differ. Facts do not cease to exist because they are ignored.

I guess some are only blind on the things they want to.

0 ( +1 / -1 )

No one can say for sure what this man's intentions are but something is certainly strange here

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Mr Shigeta supplied the eggs and had them implanted in Thai women. It hasn't been reported on where the ova came from but looking at the children it would appear that the children are light skinned and Asian...

That's a pretty interesting page. Ghengis Khan must have rewritten the DNA of East Asia with that many kids.

If his juice is jumping, he could afford to father 6 or 7 kids with different mothers, even Thai mothers if that is his preference. But why 13 and why all surrogates?

Maybe because he could pay them to be surrogates without having to deal with custody issues with natural mothers. Maybe he's gay and isn't into women. The bigger question is why not 13, and why not all surrogates?

If me or my wife won the lottery we may want 6 or 7 kids but that is to do with a love for our marriage. Why does this rich kid want 13 surrogate children on his own?

Why not?

-1 ( +4 / -5 )

What its no different to females that go out and have a dozen kids to a dozen different men, as a way of claiming welfare and living off the state, at least this guy has money to support the kids and not asking tax payers to do it!

-1 ( +1 / -2 )

My humble take

Try a humble take and not auto bashing.

If this man is a good man, then what he is doing is fine. Don’t make up nonsense, he made sure each child was personally cared for, financed, and needed nothing.

-3 ( +3 / -6 )

He says he needs the children to help the family business in the future, but with that family's money why would they have issues finding the right staff?

Family will generally be more loyal than staff.

-3 ( +2 / -5 )

Interesting guy - created a little posse for himself.

I kind of see the attraction actually. If I had the money...

-4 ( +5 / -9 )

Bing bong. I'm glad you said it first. So why should other gay couples have to go through such a thorough process to surrogate when he is not even being upfront about the reason?

How do you know that’s the reason?

why so many children for someone in his twenties?

Why not?

You certainly like to ask questions but not answer them. Why is that?
