And it leaves a potential 30-40 years of work for the utility and possibly many of the locals decommissioning it. Toshiba will be on the way to see you very soon.

they'll need to put aside funds for the better part of two generations of technicians, their families, and their offspring, who will need to be trained in the history of the plant and the technical requirements to maintain the decommissioning progress

Victory for fossil fuels(backup for intermittent renewables) which air pollution respects no border and kills millions of people every year, while no one has died from radiation exposure at Fukushima.

@sf2k - they are supposed to put aside money in the 1st 20 years of the nuclear power plant operation to cover these costs, based on a 40 year operational life, though based on decommissioning work in Europe, it probably won't. Prolonging NPP life after 40 years is a dream for the utilities, and highly profitable.
