Where is the high number of deaths in Japan then?

It is difficult to hide multiple deaths no?

Infections can be called whatever but deaths cannot....

Death happens every day for multiple reasons, the best way to attribute the cause of deaths is via an autopsy.

For a better idea of how that goes down, I suggest searching for stats and info relating to post mortem autopsies in Japan. Compared to first world... Scratch that. Compared to ANY countries, Japan is a joke.

Just a link to get you started. There is plenty of extra info available on the web.

*'I guess the prefectures know that money will flow to the state of emergency areas.'*

MONEY that word just made me sick to my stomach.

The must have item for mayors this spring “ state of emergency declaration ”

Show how powerful your city is by being included alongside world renowned cities like Tokyo and Osaka.

For the mayor you really love, for the small price of mass unemployment in the area.

Given that Kyoto is right next to Osaka and Hyogo

I agree. Nara(city)-Kyoto(city)-Osaka-Kobe is one urban area with millions of people commuting daily all over for work, studies, shopping... and until recently tourism. You confine the set, or it's like you do nothing.

They could exclude the remote mountain/forest areas of Kyoto, Hyogo and Nara prefecture.

At present 99 deaths in Japan

99 a day or 99 an hour ? If there were only 99 in total a month ago, Abe would not have even closed the schools.

"I call on all people who love Kyoto and tourists from all over the world - until this situation is ended, to protect yourself and your families, please refrain from visiting Kyoto," Mayor Daisaku Kadokawa told a news conference.

Translation: don't come here and spread your virus!

Because Japan is not testing so it is not reported. There is 4-5 month daily in government statistics, so you will not be hearing about it for a long time. Latest available population data is only up to Nov. 2019, published April 7th.

It'll be unsporting to not at least acknowledge they may be genuinely doing better than the West. Sure, you can play some games with the deaths too, but not nearly as much as you can with the number of tests or infectees, so they should be acknowledged as relatively reliable values.

It is perfectly possible to say Japan should take harder measures without denying the facts as they seem to be so far.

There really is no emergency in Japan...

If a health system is under stress due to COVID-19, other illnesses and injuries which are very treatable become more deadly.

I wish Shinkansen prices would drop. My wife and I would jump on that quickly to go to Kyoto again this year and definitely Taiwan for a fourth trip.

Maybe I can get private tours by monks at all the fabulous temples etc.

Unless you are from a known cluster or came from overseas, it is extremely difficult to be allowed to receive a test. My friends uncle is in ICU since last week in Kyushu with severe pneumonia and he have not been tested. Many pneumonia patients could be dying in Japan without ever being allowed a test.

So... If Kyoto gets the state of emergency, does that mean Hokkaido will get it again, as we have higher numbers?

"I call on all people who love Kyoto and tourists from all over the world - until this situation is ended, to protect yourself and your families, please refrain from visiting Kyoto," Mayor Daisaku Kadokawa told a news conference.

Tourist number in Kyoto is already down a lot. Noisy Chinese tourist or other foreign ones are not going to Kyoto anymore. This has been happening for a while. Does this guy just emerge from a cave or is he blind? Maybe he is saying this to the domestic tourist.

I do not want to be mean but remember how some news on JT says Kyoto residents are sick of seeing those tourists. Now its mayor has openly called on people to refrain from visiting Kyoto. I guess no one would think that could happen.

At present 99 deaths in Japan but over 16500 deaths in the US.

There really is no emergency in Japan...

It will happen here too if things aren’t locked down.

Definitely want to get some of that government money. Just the 2 masks from Abe will cost taxpayers 46.6 billion yen- almost half a BILLION US dollars.

Spreading the wealth is important.

The posters who keep saying that there isn’t any emergency in Japan need to do a reality check. Rates in the USA where small at first then, BAM, out of nowhere they just exploded!

It will happen here too if things aren’t locked down.

My J friends are in Izu and Karuizawa escaping from and potentially spreading the virus.

Considering Japan is so restrictive on testing, Japan numbers can’t be used as comparison. Japan is not testing to track the extent of spread or for treatment, it is only testing for an “epidemiology study”.

No one knows the extent or numbers in Japan. Only thing Japan numbers can tell us is that there’s new infections occurring.

Japan can have more new cases than US and still report a few hundred cases daily since only a few thousands would be tested daily and there’s very limited testing on weekends.

They must be desperate to be able to close their izakaya by 8PM too.

3 ( +3 / -0 )

Yes. there must be money there for the emergency declaration.
