A man in his 70s died Wednesday afternoon after a 3-ton rock fell on him at a construction site in Tokyo’s Tachikawa area, police said.
According to police, the incident occurred sat around 2 p.m. The man and other workers were handling large garden stones for the construction of a facility for the elderly. The man was one of the workers in charge of deciding the alignment of the stones and was giving instructions to the crane crew from the ground, Fuji TV reported.
One of the stones, weighing approximately three tons, fell on the man, crushing him to death.
Police believe one of the wires carrying the stone got loose, causing the stone to fall on the ground.

Gees! Rule #1 of working with cranes: NEVER STAND UNDERNEATH THE LOAD! I guess this old fella forgot. Sad!

Got a direct hit from the three tons rock! Just the thought of it makes me shiver. RIP.

How many times do we have to hear about accidents involving stuff falling from cranes here? I'm guessing it's another dodgy construction company that probably also sub-contracts work out, and why is a 70-year-old guy standing under the load giving orders anyway? Sure hope his death was instantaneous.

Having a 3-ton rock dropped on you would certainly wake you up. Poor guy.

I would not liked to have been involved in the body recovery here. That, would have been rather distressing.
