Man hit by train injures 2 commuters on platform at subway station in Tokyo

Two men were injured after a man who was hit by an incoming train was thrown back onto the platform into them at a subway station in Tokyo’s Chiyoda Ward on Thursday night.

According to police, the incident occurred at around 7:30 p.m. at Jimbocho Station on the Toei Shinjuku Line, Fuji TV reported. The train, bound for Chofu, hit a 42-year-old man, hurling him about 10 meters into two other men.

The three were taken to hospital immediately after the incident. The 42-year-old man suffered a broken chest bone, and the other two mild injuries, police said.

The incident suspended operations on the subway line for an hour, affecting around 32,000 people, subway operator officials said. The glass window of the train driver's cabin was smashed.

Police said they have not determined the cause of the incident, but the train driver was quoted by media as saying he noticed the man walking unsteadily on the platform as the train pulled into the station

Thrown 10 meters, and only a broken chest bone? That can't be right. If he was thrown 10 meters, he would likely be dead. And I also think it's unlikely that he could travel even 2 or 3 meters on a platform at that time without hitting someone.

Sometimes you get a minus because what you say is wrong according to most.

It doesn't require any hate or lack of understanding. Perhaps maybe it's something that YOU don't understand, thus the thumbs down.

Sounds like he was drunk, in which case, or if just ill, barriers could once again have prevented all three from being injured as well as many being inconvenienced by the delays. If it was an attempted suicide, which sounds odd given that he was walking around funny on the platform, it still might have prevented it, but is less likely.

"mild injuries"? Maybe "minor injuries" would be good...

Are you insinuating that he was wrong in believing that barriers would prevent the blind and drunk from accidentally falling onto train tracks at stations...?

Train stations here get filled to overcapacity in urban areas, this is why people are forced to the edge of platforms resulting in accidents.

I have yet to see any train station restrict passenger entry here.

Drunken or any illness? Hope police take firm steps to clarify the cause of the incident.

Do not request barriers, Sandie, or they will send you into a stream of minuses for wanting to protect people from accidents (and worse!)...

they are called "ribs"

Not necessarily, could be his sternum.

@Suzzane - Thank you. Exactly. Is it wrong to say that barriers would have prevented this accident and others like it? Um, heck no! It is fact. You cannot fall onto the train tracks if there is something preventing it. Unless you are as tall as Godzilla, but then the train is really not going to hurt you and people will be crushed by your giant footsteps anyway.

@thepersoniamnow - Um, I don't really care how many minuses I get. Sure I might get minuses because I say what is wrong according to most, but I am cool with that. I don't want to be a lemming. I'd prefer to think outside of the box then inside because it is too crowded. I don't post like some people do, to feed their ego or seeking validation. But now that you mention it, it does require some hate sometimes. And yes, if a point is right and you click minus it is either hate or a lack of understanding, or I should say, willingness to try to understand a point that is made by someone you dislike or a desire to not understand something that goes against your belief. Maybe it is something that I don't understand, or maybe it is simply because I question everything. Either way, it does not matter to me. Fact is the barriers would have prevent this accident from happing and that is undeniable.

Barriers in stations should be the norm. Rather than for Suicidal persons, who could simply climb over the barriers, but simply to stop stupid accidents happening - many of which, are at the fault of the Station design.

See, here we go again. All they need to do is provide barriers and these things won't happen. I am so happy that the three men survived, but it could have been avoided if the train companies cared about their passengers instead of just money. Put some barriers up!

@Namov - I know, right. Some people can be jerks, but that's okay. Minuses are not important. I have been getting them for a long time. People hate what they can not or do not want to understand.
