They need to triple the number of centers.

How can anyone down vote my post regarding the tracking of adverse reactions people are experiencing after getting these vaccines?

I assume that you want Japanese taking a vaccine without informed consent. Is that it?

0 ( +1 / -1 )

Easy Just vaccinate those at risk

Agree. That's what all countries want to do.

But certain groups like the very young or the pregnant aren't allowed to be vaccinated yet.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

with Prime Minister Yoshihide Suga targeting administering up to 1 million doses nationwide per day after mid-June.

I don't understand why wait to mid-June, why not start now?!

0 ( +0 / -0 )

I would not call this additional 5000 or 10.000 vaccinations to be 'full swing' - sounds rather exaggerated to me - but it is better than nothing, still better than what was done up to now.

1 ( +1 / -0 )

Easy Just vaccinate those at risk and let the others be. The only people dying from this influenza like illness are those with secondary illnesses or about 0.1 % of those infected if the actual infection rates were used.

Problem solved.

Too many hypochondriacs on these forums ;)

Just a short update concerning inoculation "efforts" in Japan.

https://ourworldindata.org/covid-vaccinations?country=~JPN

Feel free to search for any other country on that site.

The results for Japan still doesn't look too impressive despite those 2 vaccination centers!

Not really sure what you are looking at here. Seems like a nice upward trend since the centers opened, which was only a week ago. Whether this is do to the centers or other factors I have no idea, though.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Why not let all doctors with general clinics be able to vaccinate? Or not let licensed pharmacies give out vaccinations like the United States?

You're asking this from a country that won't allow aspirin to be sold at convenience stores. Lol

1 ( +2 / -1 )

I'm not personally affected by this (already had the 1-jab J&J) but can anyone explain what this means...

Since people who have been administered one dose of the Pfizer vaccine are not allowed to use the SDF-operated venues, the Defense Ministry has urged those who have booked for shots at both the state-run centers and local government-run facilities to swiftly cancel one or other of them.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

"mass"? Only a certain segment of the population, a minority, are eligible. That's not "mass".

A "mass evacuation" is when EVERYBODY gets evacuated. I wish Japanese journalists would think rather than parrot the govt's line. Have any also questioned why these facilities are running only 3 months?

-1 ( +1 / -2 )

For those willing to listen, the VAERS system, which is run by the CDC, shows that nearly 5,000 people in America have died since receiving their COVID vaccine, nearly half of these deaths coming within 3 days of the shot.

I listened--and I looked at VERS and the number was only 2050 deaths as of yesterday were listed.

People die within three days of drinking heavily, eating a large meal, drinking water . . . Can't attribute all those 2050 deaths to having received a vaccine.

-1 ( +2 / -3 )

How come no arrows are pointing the way into the booths in the picture?

At least hire some retirees in their blue uniforms, white helmets, and have them wave an orange flashlight.

-2 ( +1 / -3 )

Too little too late. Typical bureaucratic pace that can only be sped up by under the table negotiations which will only benefit political insiders and benefactors

-1 ( +1 / -2 )

So many ill-informed posts here.

In my ward in Tokyo everyone in my age group (30s) will get their vaccination by mid - July. We received a flyer confirming this yesterday.

Things are speeding up massively.

2 ( +5 / -3 )

It's only going to be open for 3 months because that is how long they calculate it will take to vaccinate the entire country. At least as far as a big vaccination site serves it's purpose. Once vaccinations reach about 60% of the population you start to run into hold-outs and naysayers. Infections drop to practicaly zero and people are lazy to do it. This is why the big sites in California closed. Then you go into the phase where you start bribing people with gifts to get vaccinated.

1 ( +1 / -0 )

Does the Japanese government have a database like the Vaccine Adverse Event Reporting System (VAERS), the one that shows the number of vaccinated people who have had negative reactions?

For those willing to listen, the VAERS system, which is run by the CDC, shows that nearly 5,000 people in America have died since receiving their COVID vaccine, nearly half of these deaths coming within 3 days of the shot.

I would think that Japanese would like to know about this. You know, a little "informed consent."

What is interesting is how much progress Tokyo had already made 1.5 years after being awarded the Olympics, in preparing for that event. Compared with what Tokyo and Japan overall have done here since the Covid outbreak.

For the Olympics preparation, Tokyo had the guidance of the IOC, and was able to fall back on the methods used by other countries that recently held the Olympics. Very easy to follow directions on how to build something.

With Covid, there was no unified organization that had a blueprint for dealing with this.

So instead, Jaan had to rely on itself to figure out a solution.

This is what we get.

-3 ( +0 / -3 )

Hello! I is a monumental task and a very complex. there are not too many vaccines available at one time at global level, my respects to the people behind the scene that buy, transport, safe keep and distribute, moust people have no idea of the complexity.

Go Japan !!!

0 ( +2 / -2 )

10000 a day for one center is a lot.

Many do not realize how it is and all the logistics behind to handle it.

Imagine you are the 10000 in the line, I am sure you would soon wish it would be less people in front of you

1 ( +1 / -0 )

How do you say pathetic in Japanese? Awa...a

2 ( +2 / -0 )

The US managed to do 4 million shots in one day so Japan should be able to do at least 1 million a day. That would mean just 3 months for 90 million adults to have their first shot. Get on with it because we're all at risk of losing it sooner or later!

0 ( +0 / -0 )

In my opinion, it takes more time for those under 65 to get vaccinated. this article said until JULY,,, But I don't think so. Every time the Japanese government said fabrications. So totally I cannot believe what they are saying. The state of emergency will probably be extended again... What should we do????

0 ( +1 / -1 )

These centers will help but the majority of vaccines are administered elsewhere. Japan is currently doing over 500K a day which will easily reach 1 million daily very soon. Before Covid, the country was easily doing 600K flu shots a day during the winter season.

Yep ! So it seems ! 500K / day and very likely Japan will the 1M / day mark by mid June. Starting next week dentists too can administer the shot !

Also the SDF (Thank you!) has proven that mass vaccination centres make sense the algo works. Now we need more and bigger !

2 ( +2 / -0 )

""with Prime Minister Yoshihide Suga targeting administering up to 1 million doses nationwide per day after mid-June.""

I certainly hope so, Japan needs to get it's act together soon. since mid Feb. all i read about is more and more talk about accelerating, ramping up, speeding up, and mass vaccination, but the total number is still under 10%.

Glad to see the SDF getting involved too.

2 ( +2 / -0 )

Things are moving in the right direction.

0 ( +3 / -3 )

Great news! The elderly, those with health issues and those worried about covid can have their fears ended.

This is totally misleading. The opposite is true. Those with pre-existing conditions have just got some bad news: they have been bumped back in with the rest of the population. If you include the major pre-existing conditions of heart disease, cancer, lung conditions, kidney disease, you are talking about millions and millions of people under 65, who now know that they don't have any kind of time frame for getting protection? Give me a break! All registered disabled are REGISTERED with their local authority. How hard is it to go through their databases and invite people to register for a vaccination? Or otherwise, the hospital that regularly treats them for their pre-existing condition does this? You would think that registering people disabled was for something like this.

And this is so that they can vaccinate Japanese Olympic teams without attracting attention, because it's a level playing field now.

This now means my transplant patient partner will be forced to go a one hour journey to his regular hospital to ask if there is ANY prospect of him getting vaccinated in the near future.

Please cut the happy clappy trap if you are not directly impacted by today's news, if you are making these kind of statements, you have NO IDEA what it is like to be shut in at home shielding for a further indefinite period because this incompetent government has thrown in the towel on organising priority groups.

1 ( +3 / -2 )

So, the elderly will have to wait for the younger to have their vaccines and the elderly are the most at risk!

That policy is the opposite of what the UK has done.

There are posters here thinking that is the right thing to do?

I am incredulous...

3 ( +5 / -2 )

‘Full swing’, oh I just can’t...gimme a minute, oh my... ok I’m ok now. Ok.

Anyway, if you get vaccinated, what do you care if others do not get vaccinated.? You are protected, right? Mind your own business.

Oh my, here we go again, ok gimme a minute.

"New COVID-19 cases in Osaka dip below 100 for first time since March 22"

Positive headlines from a reputable news site in Japan .... Japan Times

That's great news!

0 ( +4 / -4 )

Some people shouldn't be vaccinated so there can be a control group of those that are not taking the experimental vaccine. I choose to be in the control group. Thank you for volunteering to be test subjects, jabees.

Be careful, so far 3.5 million on the control group have died

4 ( +8 / -4 )

setting up these centers is a step forward and should be recognized as such.

But it is far from sufficient. The vaccine has been purchased, so just distribute it across the country to every clinic or hospital that can administer it safely. I know for a fact that doctors have been getting their hands on the Pfizer vaccine for months. So these doctors should now be vaccinating others. Pay them a bonus or whatever you need to do, but don't just count on these two self-defense centers to dribble it out in dabs.

3 ( +3 / -0 )

All of this would have been great two years ago. Instead we got "Go to travel" and "Go to eat'" which likely fueled the pandemic.

Abe did his bit too. Permanent residents who were outside Japan could not come back. But he did not not seem to worry about Japanese coming from abroad. (Correct me if I'm wrong).

Anyway, being Japanese did not make you immune from the pandemic.

1 ( +2 / -1 )

-4 ( +4 / -8 )

Nice that they are speeding it up but let us not forget the bad outcome that comes with getting vaccinated including anaphylactic shock and death at worse case. Lets hope everyone is safely vaccinated.

-9 ( +1 / -10 )

The three month operating schedule is the current plan. This may and probably will be extended. and for about the umpteenth time. These mass centers are EXTRA to the vaccination centers provided by each local area, NOT the only places giving shots.

4 ( +5 / -1 )

Great news! The elderly, those with health issues and those worried about covid can have their fears ended. The government is making sure that the population is safe and feels reassured.

By the start of the Olympics, all the panic will be over and we can enjoy cheering on our favorites.

-9 ( +3 / -12 )

Lol, look at these self proclaimed mathematicians applying their dooms day formula on Japan. Fyi geniuses, Japan is already administering 580k doses on an average everyday and spare me with the crap saying that it's going to take 300 years to vaccinate Japanese population. 1 million doses a day isn't far away now that the pace is expected to increase explosively from this week.

0 ( +6 / -6 )

Think people are missing the point here. These are 2 instances of mass centers. This isn’t the entirety of the countries’ inoculation capacity. Just a bit of good news and a sign of progress.

5 ( +6 / -1 )

Pathetic numbers. In the UK, towards 500,000 a day are being vaccinated.

Japan's 7-day average for doses administered is now over 500,000

https://ourworldindata.org/explorers/coronavirus-data-explorer?zoomToSelection=true&pickerSort=desc&pickerMetric=total_vaccinations&Metric=Vaccine+doses&Interval=7-day+rolling+average&Relative+to+Population=false&Align+outbreaks=false&country=JPN~GBR

Translation:

"Full swing" = "half cocked"

5 ( +7 / -2 )

The key question asked by Vinke. ‘Why are the centres only open for 3 months’. Perhaps J gov want to fail !

3 ( +4 / -1 )

5 ( +8 / -3 )

Finally! It’s about time. Keep it going. More of these. And where is this three month limit garbage? How about keeping them open till we hit at least 75% of the pop? Gotta start somewhere I guess.

3 ( +3 / -0 )

SLUGGISH is an understatement. Patiently waiting for systems to crash, vaccines to expire and the disaster to continue

4 ( +5 / -1 )

SDF such a treasure

6 ( +6 / -0 )

Why only three months? More vaccine centres are needed with no time limit on their usage.

7 ( +7 / -0 )

Where are the other sites for the rest of the 492,431 daily doses?

https://www.japantimes.co.jp/how-to-coronavirus-vaccinations-japan/

"Vaccination venues vary with each municipality. The vaccination voucher sent from local governments will list the available venues. Municipalities are planning to use public facilities and gymnasiums, for instance, as large-scale vaccination centers. Local clinics may also offer shots as well."

7 ( +8 / -1 )

15,000 doses per day is a small portion of the total daily doses.

For example, 497,431 doses were administered in Japan on Thursday, May 27.

5 ( +6 / -1 )

Mass vaccinations in Tokyo

What kind of idiotic propaganda is this?

10,000/day in Tokyo is SLUGGISH, not mass vaccination.

Mass vaccination in such large city would be 300,000/day.

This government really uses and misleads its good people.

6 ( +10 / -4 )

Also, why are the centres running for only 3 months?

Because the virus won't kill after August?

I suppose this is a start, but why are there no vaccination stations in each ward? I think every borough in London, UK has vaccinations centres AS WELL AS testing centres. This is like asking every Londoner to take the train into central London and get the jab in the City of Westminster. Crazy.

9 ( +11 / -2 )

Japan is a highly literate country, and basically just about everyone can read, and do basic math, so why do so many people believe the "math" the Suga and company are spewing out about these "mass" vaccination centers?

He is doing his damndest to connect two parallel lines, and failing miserably in the process, but people still seem to believe him!

4 ( +8 / -4 )

Okay so the two centers are doing a total of 15,000 per day which equals 450,000 shots a month. And they are only going to run it for 3 months, which means 1,350,000 shots. Dividing that number by 2, and these 2 so called mass vaccination sites are going to fully vaccinate 675,000 people. That’s just a fraction of 1 % of the population. Of course those 2 sites are only what the central government is doing. The local governments efforts will be doing way more. But three very big questions come to mind. Why did the government wait months before opening these centers? Why did they open just 2? And perhaps most baffling of all, why in the world are they only going to run it for only 3 months? It’s extremely sad to think that the 3rd largest economy of the world, mustering its resources can only produce such paltry results.

19 ( +20 / -1 )

will only be able to vaccinate 900,000 people in Tokyo and 450,000 in Osaka over the three months of their scheduled operation.

Yeah but for example as of the National Census of October 1, 2015, the aged population (ages 65 and over) in Tokyo prefecture alone is 3.006 million people. So how many of those have already been so far vaccinated? Added to the planned vaccination of 900,000 people in the Tokyo vaccination center, how many elderly people will remain to be vaccinated with the vaccination provided by the local government and at what time frame?

0 ( +3 / -3 )

"full swing", what a misleading propaganda title.

900,000 in 3 months for an area of 30M+ people is full swing?

Furthermore, what is the plan after these center closes? Oh right, after the Olympics, there's no need for more vaccinations.

Pretty much going abroad for vaccines will be the only option for the majority of the population.

4 ( +8 / -4 )

Every drop counts so it’s good that we are getting more opportunities to get vaccinated but in my honest opinion, all the “positive” news about covid vaccination in Japan is pathetic attempt by the J Gov to save face.

The media outlets will be bombarded with non news (by repeating the same thing over and over) to create a false sense of serious action by the government.

5 ( +8 / -3 )

the Defense Ministry has urged those who have booked for shots at both the state-run centers and local government-run facilities to swiftly cancel one or other of them.

So we are talking about the society group that has mass dementia right?

-6 ( +2 / -8 )

We all know what "mass" means in Tokyo. People passing through Shinjuku station during rush-hour. The exodus overseas at New Year's or Obon holidays. The big crowds going for discount shopping... This just doesn't measure up.

4 ( +7 / -3 )

Great to see things speeding up. Japan should have shown this urgency earlier however.

3 ( +13 / -10 )

By the way, this picture captures the nature how things are being run in here vs the rest of the world. Overemployment, always at least one person being there and directing other people. Be it on the road, the guys with flags in front and back, or vaccination session like this.

13 ( +18 / -5 )

However, even running at full capacity, the two centers, which are staffed by SDF doctors and nurses as well as private nurses, will only be able to vaccinate 900,000 people in Tokyo and 450,000 in Osaka over the three months of their scheduled operation.

I've got a mad idea;

Build more than one of them.

17 ( +20 / -3 )

and due to operate for three months

Pathetic, you going to close them after 3 months?!

9 ( +16 / -7 )

One week down, just 7.24 more years to go!

10 ( +20 / -10 )

Full swing.. Japanese style? Or full swing like UK, Israel, Czech or insert random EU country swing? One would think that the need to host Olympics will speed things a lot.. But nope. Mouth full of excuses like worried about public health, blaming other countries about stashing the vaccines, etc.

4 ( +12 / -8 )

I assume those chairs on the left are for the ones who are next in line to get the jab. Most of them are empty. I wouldn’t say this is “in full swing”.

Also, why are the centres running for only 3 months?

13 ( +23 / -10 )

*Mass vaccinations in Tokyo, Osaka get into *full swing

Full swing...that wording gives hope.

0 ( +14 / -14 )

But health minister Norihisa Tamura said Sunday that the rollout would proceed directly to those under the age of 65, although those with underlying conditions would receive priority.

The vulnerable are being bypassed?

This is against the grain and a cynical response...
